Forrest County is growing and changing, and planning for the future means having the long view.
We are proud to share the Forrest County Comprehensive Plan 2026–2050: a long-range roadmap designed to help guide decisions about the future of our county.
So, what does that mean??
Think of the Comprehensive Plan as a guide for answering important questions like:
• How should we prepare for growth?
• Where should future development occur?
• How can we improve roads, infrastructure, drainage, and broadband?
• How do we support economic growth and job opportunities?
• How can we preserve our rural character and natural resources while preparing for the future?
• What improvements are needed for public safety, recreation, community facilities, and quality of life?
The plan identifies six major areas of focus: Sustainable Growth, Environmental Resilience, Economic Opportunity, Connectivity, Community Facilities/Quality of Life, and continued Community Engagement.
This plan does NOT mean that every recommendation will happen overnight or that every idea is a guaranteed project. Instead, it provides a long-term framework to help our county leaders make informed decisions, prioritize investments, pursue funding opportunities, and work toward a shared vision for Forrest County. The plan also includes a flexible Five-Year Action Framework and will be reviewed and updated over time as our county's needs and opportunities evolve.

We encourage residents to take a look and learn more about the vision, priorities, and opportunities that will help shape Forrest County in the years ahead.
A comprehensive plan is a policy document that outlines a community’s vision for the future and the steps required to achieve it.
