Last week, Forrest County Fire Service Fire Chief and County Fire Coordinator Bo Murphy was admitted to the hospital due to a cardiac-related emergency.

On Monday, Chief Murphy successfully underwent bypass surgery to address the issues with his heart. We are pleased to report that he came through the procedure with flying colors and is now well on the road to recovery.

FCFS would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has shown support during this time. The prayers, encouragement, and well wishes from our community have not gone unnoticed and are deeply appreciated.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon, Chief.

We are a few days late for get to know your firefighters πŸš’ but here we are! This month we are giving Firefighter Corey Franklin a shout out! Corey Is currently serving in the Brooklyn Community. Thank you Corey for choosing to serve the citizens of Forrest County.

1. 3 years of experience, Hattiesburg FD. Wife w/ 3 kids

2. I was inspired to become a firefighter by my uncle who was LAFD and the desire to show my children the importance of service in our community. Due to my 10 years of military service, 5 being active duty Navy and 5 in the reserves, the call of duty became increasingly irresistible, so I answered by becoming a fireman.

3. I prepare mentally and physically for this job by working out at the gym to improve discipline, physical readiness, and mental fortitude.

4. Outside of work I spend my time taking online classes at Mississippi State in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

5. I wish people knew that firefighters do a lot more than sit at the station and make chili. We see a lot of people on the worst days of their lives and we will do whatever we can to leave any situation better than we found it.
