Today, I’m especially proud of my family’s legacy of service to country and community, a legacy that helped shape the lives of my brother and me. My father’s father was an NYPD Detective, my mother’s father served both in the Coast Guard and in the NYPD, my father in the Nassau PD and stepfather in the Navy. Their example of dedication, sacrifice, and public service helped guide us toward our own paths of service in our nation’s military.

A special shoutout to “Papa,” Kaylie’s dad and our girls’ grandfather, whose service as a lifeguard reminds us that protecting and caring for others takes many forms.

To all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures across Suffolk County, thank you for the love, guidance, strength, and support you provide to your families and communities every day.

Yesterday, before watching the world’s best golfers compete at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, Kaylie, Reagan, and I spent time with my friends from the Shinnecock Nation on their tribal land. Their story is one of faith, family, resilience, and perseverance, a story I grow to appreciate more with every visit.

Vice Chairman Lance Gumbs gave us a personal tour of the Shinnecock Museum, the reservation, and the resting places of some of the Nation’s ancestors. As we focused on the headstones, I was struck by how many Shinnecocks had served in the U.S. military. Lance shared that Native Americans have long served at higher rates than the general population, a tradition that continues today. In fact, since 9/11, roughly 19% of Native Americans have served in the Armed Forces, compared to about 14% of Americans from other ethnic groups, a remarkable testament to their patriotism and commitment to service.

After the tour, I met with Chairwoman Lisa Goree and the Council of Trustees at the Nation’s headquarters in Southampton. We talked about the nation’s 800 people, and what the council is doing to promote education, economic independence, and quality of life.

For more than 13,000 years, the Shinnecock people have called this land home. As skilled whalers, artisans, and steadfast stewards of a rich Algonquian heritage, they have helped shape the history and character of the East End. Their enduring contributions, strength, and spirit are an important part of what makes hosting the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills so meaningful.

Since taking office, I've secured more than $41 million in federal earmarks for Suffolk County projects.

As I evaluate future requests, communities that cooperate with federal authorities, support law enforcement, and uphold the rule of law will be my priority, not those embracing the Mamdani-Hochul sanctuary agenda.

Republican Representative Nick LaLota has likely cut off East Hampton Town and Village from receiving federal dollars for community project funding requests.
These requests, also known as “earmarks,” bear no relation to our local C.P.F., the community preservation fund that comes from a real-estate transfer tax.
The news was delivered in a letter to town supervisors, mayors, and other local government officials yesterday.
“While municipalities retain broad authority over local matters, community project funding is a discretionary congressional appropriations process,” wrote the congressman, who is up for re-election this fall.

On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston and read the order aloud: freedom had finally reached the last enslaved Americans in Texas, more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder of our nation's enduring pursuit of liberty and justice for all.

Every 1st of the month, The American Legion National Headquarters marks "Be the One" Day when they highlight their primary mission: reducing the number of veterans lost to su***de.

Right here in Suffolk County, the Dwyer Program has spent over a decade pairing Veterans with fellow Veterans for mental health support, and, as a Navy veteran, I’m pushing for legislation to take that model nationwide.

Great visit to The School House in East Northport. Their innovative approach to education is helping students from all backgrounds reach their full potential and serves as a powerful reminder of why school choice matters.

The Working Families Tax Cuts I supported created a new federal education tax credit to help more families access programs like this.

Investing in our children’s education is one of the best investments we can make in Long Island’s future.

Unfortunately, Coast Guard members stationed in the Hamptons receive the same housing allowance as those stationed up-island where rent costs are significantly less, albeit still expensive.

I raised that disparity with DHS Secretary Mullin, who acknowledged the problem and is taking it seriously.

Out of thousands of applicants nationwide, Yuuki earned a spot in one of the most competitive youth ensembles in the country and will represent Suffolk County.

Long Island’s high cost of living, especially the cost of housing, has made recruiting Coast Guard personnel to serve here increasingly difficult.

As the federal government moves to sell the former 24-unit Coast Guard housing property in Westhampton, I am advocating for the site to be used in a manner that is respectful of the surrounding community and acceptable to local neighbors.

I asked Secretary Mullin directly to ensure the proceeds from the sale remain here on Long Island to help Coast Guard families afford to live in the communities they serve, rather than being folded into a national fund.
