JumpSMART contract signing!

Suffolk County Economic Development & Planning is working diligently to execute contracts with more than 60 organizations who were awarded funding recently approved by the Suffolk County Legislature.

Suffolk County’s JumpSMART program is funded through Federal ARPA funds, designed to help small businesses and communities effectively recover from the pandemic.

As a result, nearly $30 million will go to nonprofit, arts, tourism, and small business partners to help strengthen our communities and provide economic support for capital and programmatic endeavors.

Suffolk County Economic Development Council (SCEDC) was awarded a $10,000 AARP Livable Communities grant, paving the way for transformative initiatives for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). 🏡

The Homes to Opportunity (H2O) Accessory Dwelling Unit Design contest was successfully implemented with the help of this award! We celebrated the outstanding creativity and innovation of participants who embraced key principles and made awards to the top three that demonstrated: Sustainability, Accessibility, Universal Design, Innovation, Community Suitability, Affordability, and Design Practices.

Visit our exhibit at the Dennison Building, 100 Veterans Highway, Hauppauge now until December 29, 2023, to explore 3D models, and submissions, and gain insights into Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). 🏠

ADUs offer diverse benefits, from aging-in-place options to generating extra income, providing affordable housing for all ages, and preserving neighborhood character. 🌳

Let's continue making a difference!

The Long Island Game Farm in Manorville is a recipient of one of Suffolk County’s JumpSmart grants.

The Game Farm was established in 1970 by Stanley & Diane Novak. Since Stanley’s passing in 1999 it has been run by his daughter Melinda who has made the focus of the farm exclusively towards animals, nature and education. It is home to nearly 200 animals and has become a yearly tradition for many families. Most of us who have lived in the area for any length of time have visited the game farm. It is a wonderful attraction right in our back yard!

It was a pleasure to present this grant to assist them in making much needed repairs to their amphitheater and for the addition of a walking trail.

With Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, Legislator Nick Caracappa, Suffolk County Legislator Jason A. Richberg

Over the weekend, Suffolk County Economic Development & Planning, in partnership with Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy Jr., Legislator Leslie Kennedy, Senator Dean Murray, Assemblyman Doug Smith, and the Lake Ronkonkoma Improvement Group, celebrated the renaming of the former Bavarian Inn property to “Bavarian Shores”.

The Bavarian Inn began as a beach resort and hot dog stand along the north shore of Lake Ronkonkoma in the 1930’s, when it was once called “Ronkonkoma Shores”. William Huber Sr. had purchased the pavilion in 1939, and over the years the property morphed into one of the most popular wedding and catering venues in Suffolk county.

In 2007, rising waters at the lake waterfront venue caused significant flooding that tragically resulted in the demise of the Bavarian Inn. Suffolk County later took ownership of the property and demolished the building in 2013, eventually preserving the property as open space.

The renaming of the Bavarian Inn property as “Bavarian Shores” will honor the original “BI” that occupied the waterfront for years to come and will preserve its historic place and memory in the community.

Suffolk County’s JumpStart and JumpSMART programs are funded through the County’s capital program and Federal ARPA funds, designed to help small businesses and communities effectively recover from the pandemic. Senator Chuck Schumer, the Majority Leader of the United States Senate and head of New York’s Congressional delegation played the critical role in securing these federal resources.

As a result, nearly $50 million will go to municipal, nonprofit, and small business partners to help strengthen our communities and provide economic support.
