Today, the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission proudly joins communities around the world in recognizing the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
We respectfully acknowledge that Suffolk County is home to the Shinnecock Indian Nation and the Unkechaug Nation, and recognize the enduring presence, sovereignty, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples whose stewardship has shaped this region for generations.
As we commemorate this day, we celebrate the rich histories, cultures, languages, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples while reaffirming our commitment to advancing equality, protecting civil rights, and ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.
Together, we can continue building a community where every culture is valued, every voice is heard, and every person's human rights are protected.
