While restricted by the U.S. government's constitutional power to regulate interstate commerce, Association for a Better Long Island spent almost a year negotiating a fair policy that did not impede economic development on Long Island while encouraging more local businesses to compete for work. The policy will hopefully increase local jobs and analyze the market to help businesses address local deficiencies. This policy would not be possible without the leadership of Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone and the Suffolk IDA who made certain that the concerns from various stakeholders were addressed and a comprehensive policy was put forth.

The IDA bears an immense burden in their mission to advance the job opportunities, health, general prosperity, and economic welfare of the people of Suffolk County. Adoption of a new LI First Policy helps Suffolk IDA deliver on those goals.
None of this would have been possible without Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone's leadership and commitment to delivering for working people, our region, and the economy. The working people of Suffolk County are better off for it.

As a new homeowner in Huntington, I am disappointed in the steps that are being taken, or rather NOT being taken, by Hampton Inn Suites, SCIDA and Huntington Hotel Partners. Their refusal to fix an issue with a water line has caused the Huntington Arts council, an esteemed 58 year old community organization, to shut it's doors.
One of the reason we chose Huntington as our new home was because of Huntington Arts Council. They distribute 210 thousand dollars in grants every year, provide cultural programming to 34 thousand students in 8 school districts, showcase 700 local artists a year, and provide the TOH with a FREE summer arts festival in Heckscher Park every summer.
Art is a business and HAC, as an arts nonprofit, just like any other business create jobs and opportunities for it's members and the community. More importantly, during a global pandemic HAC has been a beacon of hope and support for it's artists, the schools it partners with and the community.
What good will a boutique hotel be, without the Huntington Arts Council to encourage tourism by continuing it's longstanding tradition of diverse and FREE arts programming? Think about it.
Fix the water pipe. Let HAC get back to the business of uplifting the very community you are ALL supposed to be serving.
