Hauula Representative, Vanley Kealiiloa Auna, Koolauloa Neighborhood Board History
Oahu’s Neighborhood Board System was created in 1973 to assure and increase community participation in the decision-making process of government. Yes!

Vanley Kealiiloa Auna is one of three Hauula residents elected to represent Hauula Sub-District 3 on the Koolauloa Neighborhood Board #28, which includes the communities of Kaaawa, Punaluu, Hauula, Laie, and Kahuku. The system applies the concept of participatory democracy, involving communities in the decisions that affect them. It establishes an islandwide network of elected neighborhood boards

as communication channels, expanding and facilitating opportunities for community and government interaction. Mission
Founded in 1973, the mission of the Neighborhood Commission is to increase and assure effective citizen participation in the decisions of government through the establishment of policy, providing oversight and evaluation, as well as facilitating the efficient organization and operation of the Neighborhood Board System. What is a Neighborhood Board? A Neighborhood Board consists of community residents – your friends, family, and neighbors. They represent you at the Board’s meetings. There are 33 Neighborhood Boards in the City and County of Honolulu. What is a Neighborhood Board meeting? A Neighborhood Board meeting is a monthly open forum between government representatives, elected officials, and members of the community. Members of the public have the right to submit testimony on any and all agenda items. Could I be on a Neighborhood Board? FYI--PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT!

On Tuesday, Dec. 8th, we will be having a Community Partnership Meeting to discuss facility improvements to Kahuku High & Intermediate School. Please join us at 6:00pm in the Cafeteria. All are welcome!

Kahuku High’s facilities needs are obvious and longstanding. A Public-Private Partnership, nicknamed “K Fast” under the direction of Kahuku Principal Pauline Masaniai, was formed and organized in August of 2015 to connect facility needs with available resources. A few needs, such as non-muddy parking between Q building and Kamehameha Highway have been impressively met. Proving its value, this Partnership now seeks to grow its team to accomplish more.

This Partnership model is already being implemented in other schools with the intent to replicate the organized success of “K Fast.”

Your attendance and helpful kōkua is welcomed at our meeting.

Go Big Red!
