The Havana Police Department is proud to have been included in this program and look forward to being actively involved. This will allow a new resource for Officers in Havana to provide community members who are struggling with addiction, homelessness, and mental health another option to seek free help. This program offers resources that we have been lacking.

This is not a soft approach on crime, but a look forward to try to prevent future crime and help those in need.

Rural communities often lack resources regarding mental health, addiction and homelessness and we are excited to be able to offer a new life line to willing participants.

Along with BRIDGE-Logan/Mason/Menard Counties we will continue to use and thank Mason District Hospital and TW Mental Health Advocates locally for assistance in the past and future.

Last week was National Police Week, and while the week may have passed, our appreciation for the dedicated men and women who serve our community continues every single day.

To our officers, thank you for your courage, commitment, and professionalism. You show up each day ready to protect, serve, and make a difference, often in ways the public may never see.

We are grateful for your sacrifice, the support of your families, and the integrity you bring to this profession.

Thank you for all you do, not just during National Police Week, but every day of the year.

Stay safe. 🚔

We're often asked about ways to help deter crime. Here are some ideas to think about:

* Outside lighting at night (Security lights)
* Fences
* Trimming back overgrowth so you can see most areas of your property
* Lock your vehicles, residence, and garage/sheds
* Ensure quality locks are on your doors and windows
* Invest in a safe (If small, bolt the safe down) and store valuables in a secure location
* Alarm Systems
* When on vacation, call the PD and ask for extra patrol overnight and take steps to make your property appear that you are still home (vehicle in driveway, light on, etc...). If you have a good relationship with your neighbor, let them know to call the PD if any suspicious activity is going on while you're away.

* Probably the biggest asset now, is how easily and low cost security cameras can be purchased and installed. It is no secret that security cameras for personal properties and businesses helps solve crime but also deter it. It is not like it used to be where you had to spend thousands of dollars on a DVR system with 9 cams being professionally installed (they are nice). So many options now come with cloud storage for a small monthly fee. To stay away from a fee, there are options with no monthly fee as long as an SD card is in the camera that will link to an app on your phone.

Several officers use Ring or Blink cameras on their property with great success but they do cost a little more.

I personally use Wyze cameras, that can be ordered on Amazon for approximately $30 per camera. I have had them up for several years without issue and can access the cameras from my phone (live feed or playback through the App). An outlet and wifi is required for the cameras. I am no expert with security systems, but if you're looking for some peace of mind and added security to your home without spending a fortune, I would recommend them.

Report crime and suspicious activity. Stay safe and lets have a great summer!

Thank you for all your help! The suspects have been identified from the previous post. That one took a bit longer since one individual wasn't local to the area. Great work with all the shares and reach that this post generated.

Also, thanks for the supportive comments. They do not go unnoticed.

This week, we recognize and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week—a time to honor the dedicated professionals who serve as the critical first point of contact in times of emergency.

They are truly the calm behind the chaos. With every call they answer, they provide reassurance, gather vital information, and coordinate the response that keeps our community safe. Their voices are often the first lifeline in moments of crisis, and their ability to remain composed under pressure is nothing short of extraordinary. They are an essential part of the public safety team.

To all of our telecommunicators, and especially our City of Havana Dispatch, thank you for your professionalism, your compassion, and your unwavering dedication. We are grateful for all that you do every single day.

You guys are awesome! It took 4 minutes of the previous post to identify both suspects in this matter! That might be a record.

Thank you again
