FREE LECTURE at shelter by Nature Center Saturday! Title: Illinois Archaeology: A review of 12,000 years of our state's (pre)history.
Saturday, September 18, 2021. Held at the shelter next to Nature Center, at Riverfront Park.
Lecture 10:00 a.m. - Artifact Identification 11:00 a.m. Bring any artifacts you'd like identified & a sack lunch for a meet and greet at Noon. Please follow mask guidelines.
This lecture will highlight the major phases of Illinois Archaeology including the PalaeoIndian, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian, and Historic Phases. It will present new findings in the field, while stressing the need for more archaeological education in our schools and communities. The lecture will be conducted by Dr. Dale F. Simpson Jr., an anthropological archaeologist that is an Associate Professor at North Central College and a Faculty Member at the College of DuPage. He is the director of the Rapa Nui Geochemical Project and Illinois Simpson Archaeology. Dr. Simpson has been practicing archaeology for two decades and will highlight his work in the U.S.
