It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Captain Andrea Fogarty after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Captain Fogarty served this department and the citizens of Haverhill with distinction for 27+ years. Throughout a long and dedicated career, she was known for unwavering professionalism, strong leadership, and a genuine commitment to the men and women of this department and the community we serve. Even during her illness, Captain Fogarty remained positive, resilient, and deeply appreciative of the support shown to her, reflecting the strength of character that defined her both personally and professionally.

Her impact on this police department is lasting, and her absence will be deeply felt. During her three decades of service, she served in multiple assignments, including Community Policing, with multiple NEMLEC units, and for a large majority of her career in our Detective division. She will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege to work alongside her and call her a friend.

The members of the Haverhill Police Department extend our sincere condolences to Captain Fogarty’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

🚒 **HAVERHILL FIRE DEPARTMENT – HIGH-ANGLE RESCUE ON ESSEX STREET**

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at approximately 2:20 PM, the Haverhill Fire Department responded to 143 Essex Street for a report of two workers trapped approximately 80 feet above the ground in an elevated boom lift.

The lift had reportedly experienced a mechanical failure, and during an attempt to manually lower it, the equipment became unstable and began leaning against the building, creating a potentially dangerous situation for the workers and those below.

Out of an abundance of caution, the building at 143 Essex Street was temporarily evacuated while firefighters worked to stabilize the equipment and safely rescue the workers.

Crews from Rescue 1 utilized specialized stabilization equipment and cribbing to secure the lift, while Ladder 1 positioned its aerial ladder to reach the stranded workers. **Ladder 1 firefighters successfully rescued both individuals from approximately 80 feet above the ground without incident.**

Following the rescue, firefighters continued working to stabilize the equipment while personnel on scene manually lowered the boom. Additional cribbing was constructed to allow the lift to be safely returned to the ground.

**Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and both workers were safely rescued.**

This incident highlights the importance of specialized training, teamwork, and the equipment necessary to safely manage complex rescue situations.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Haverhill Fire and Inspection Services departments for their rapid response to the fire in the laundry room at our Columbia Park Apartments last night, October 13, 2026. Your prompt action, dedication, and hard work helped contain the fire to the laundry room and dryer, preventing it from spreading further. Once the smoke had cleared, our families were able to return safely to their homes — a positive outcome made possible by your professionalism and care.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our staff and the community for their support, concern, and care during this time. Emmaus, our staff, and our families are deeply grateful to everyone who helped keep our community safe.

Please join Haverhill Firefighters Local 1011 in congratulating Firefighter Tim Nutter on being recognized by the Knights of Columbus for his dedication and service to our community!

From organizing our annual MDA Boot Drive to bringing Sparky the Fire Dog back into our fire prevention programs, Tim has put a lot of time and effort into making our department and the City of Haverhill a better place.

Tim takes a lot of pride in his job and genuinely cares about leaving the department better than he found it. We’re lucky to have guys like Tim who are willing to put in the extra work and make a difference.

🔥 Charge Into Fire Safety! 🔋

October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week in Massachusetts! This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” reminds us that everyday charging habits can help prevent fires.

The Haverhill Fire Department encourages everyone to use lithium-ion batteries safely:

✅ Choose batteries, chargers, and devices certified by a recognized testing laboratory, such as UL or Intertek/ETL.
✅ Use the manufacturer’s supplied or approved charger.
✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface, away from anything that can burn.
✅ Stay nearby while charging and unplug when fully charged.
✅ Keep charging devices away from doors, stairs, and escape routes.
✅ Stop using batteries that are damaged, swollen, unusually hot, or producing strange odors.
✅ Bring used batteries to an approved collection location—never place them in household trash or recycling bins.

🚨 If a battery begins smoking or catches fire, get everyone outside and call 911.

Our friend and longtime colleague Sean, his wife Shannon, and their beloved fur babies are facing an incredibly difficult time after a devastating fire destroyed their home. Thankfully, everyone made it out safely, but they have lost their belongings and are now faced with the overwhelming task of finding a place to stay, replacing everyday essentials, and beginning to rebuild.

Sean has been part of our EMS family for more than 16 years. He began his career with us as a chair van driver with the ambition to do more and earned his EMT certification in 2012. Since then, he has become an integral part of the PrideStar Trinity EMS team, working primarily in our Haverhill region.

Those who know Sean know the smile he brings to work every day and the kindness he shows to everyone around him. He is a dedicated EMS professional, a wonderful coworker, and a friend to so many throughout our organization.

For years, Sean has been there to help people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Now, it’s our opportunity to be there for him and his family.

We have established this GoFundMe to help Sean and Shannon with immediate expenses and provide some stability as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives. 🚒 Investing in Firefighter Safety and Protecting Haverhill

The City of Haverhill has been awarded $812,999.14 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program to purchase critical equipment for the Haverhill Fire Department.

A major portion of this award will fund new Scott Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) systems, including air packs and cylinders. These will replace aging equipment and provide our firefighters with modern, reliable respiratory protection while responding to fires and other hazardous emergencies.

We thank Deputy Fire Chief Richard Shellene, our department’s grant team, and Merchant McIntyre Associates for their work in securing this award. We also appreciate the support of U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey and U.S. Representative Lori Trahan.

This investment helps protect our firefighters as they carry out their mission of protecting the lives and property of the people of Haverhill.
