Small businesses are at the heart of the Merrimack Valley. They create jobs, provide essential services, strengthen local economies, and help shape the character of our communities.

During Small Business Month, MVPC celebrates the entrepreneurs and small business owners who continue to invest in our region, while also recognizing the network of partners, municipalities, chambers, lenders, and organizations that help support their success.

When small businesses are supported, entire communities benefit.

MVPC recently attended the three-part Waste Watchers Workshop series organized by the Alliance of Climate and Environmental Stewards (ACES), bringing together Merrimack Valley communities, school districts, and regional partners to discuss strategies for reducing municipal waste.

The workshops focused on collaboration, recycling improvements, funding opportunities, public outreach, and ways communities can work together to support the Commonwealth’s waste reduction goals.

MVPC applauds ACES and all participating communities and school districts for their commitment to sustainability and regional collaboration.

What if we looked at public transit like a story?

Using the “Hero’s Journey” storytelling framework, MVPC and MeVa Transit are working with seniors across the Merrimack Valley to map the real-life experience of riding the bus from start to finish.

By breaking each trip into key moments, we’re gaining insight into how to improve everything from information access to shelters, seating, and onboard amenities. This approach helps us design transit that truly supports age-friendly mobility and meets riders where they are.

It’s all about seeing transportation through the rider’s journey and making that journey better.

EARTH DAY 2026

Spring is officially here in the Merrimack Valley which means it the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy the communities we live in.

A great way to enjoy the communities we live in and help welcome in the warmer months is by getting involved in a local Earth Day event. This year, Earth Day falls on April 22nd, and many communities have organized an Earth Day event throughout the month to celebrate. If you are interested in rolling up your sleeves and pulling up your boots for some volunteer action, be sure to check out our list below of local going-ons as well as some of the opportunities outside of our region to get involved.

Whether you find yourself on the trails of our parks, or refurbishing a streetside flower box, we hope you find yourself outside and enjoying the beauty of our communities in the Merrimack Valley.
