TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Due to a water main break, motor vehicle traffic will be limited on South Chestnut St near the Sacred Hearts School. Officers on scene are going to attempt to keep the roadway open but unfortunately conducting repairs will most likely cause delays during dismissal time at the school this afternoon.

The members of the Haverhill Police extend our congratulations to our colleague Officer Conor Clark for his recognition this weekend by the Knights of Columbus as their Haverhill Police Department Officer of the Year.

The members of the Haverhill Police Department are saddened to learn of the passing of Retired Patrolman Timothy D. Donovan, Jr. Donovan, whose father also served as a Haverhill Police Officer, began his HPD career when he was appointed as a reserve officer in 1978. He then honorably served this department and the citizens of Haverhill for 35 years. During his career, he served in the Community Policing Unit, bicycle patrol, and as a liaison to the elderly. He was recognized as Co-Officer of the Year in 2001 and received numerous awards for his dedication to the community, particularly his advocacy for senior citizens.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family.

After a lengthy and extensive investigation, the Haverhill Police Department announces that two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with a kidnapping and related violent offenses.

Andy Lahens, age 22 from Everett and Ali Cali, age 22 from Cambridge have each been charged with the following offenses:

● Kidnapping – M.G.L. c. 265, § 26

● Assault to Rob, Armed – M.G.L. c. 265, § 18

● Armed and Masked Robbery – M.G.L. c. 265, § 17(b)

● Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – M.G.L. c. 265, § 15B(a)

As part of the investigation, one suspect was taken into custody in Canton, while the second suspect was taken into custody in Cambridge.

This investigation involved significant investigative work over an extended period of time. We would like to thank the Essex County District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP)Team, the Cambridge Police Department, and the Canton Police Department for their assistance and cooperation throughout the investigation and apprehension of the suspects.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional details will be released when appropriate and when doing so will not compromise the investigation or any pending court proceedings.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Single Lane Alternating Traffic and Intermittent Closures of Rocks Village Bridge

Closures in place Tuesday, October 13, through Friday, October 16, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; motorists are advised to plan ahead and seek alternate routes during these times

HAVERHILL – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that single-lane alternating traffic and intermittent full closures will occur on the Rocks Village Bridge connecting Haverhill and West Newbury from Tuesday, October 13, through Friday, October 16, between 9:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m., each day.

These traffic impacts are necessary to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct bridge inspection activities.

During these daytime work hours, the bridge will be open with a single lane of alternating traffic, with intermittent closures. Closures are anticipated to last approximately 10 to 15 minutes each.

Inspection activities are being conducted during daytime hours to support site safety and ensure inspection accuracy. The work will not alter any of the bridge's architectural, structural, or historic features.

Those traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. Appropriate signage, advance messaging, and police details will be in place. The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather and work hours are typical.

Access to local businesses, residences, and emergency services will be maintained during the work.
