1. Take to Always Recycling, located on Revolution Street here in Hdg (Ph:410-939-9201) and they will give you a couple $$ for this recyclable material, or
2. Call the Public Works' Bulk Line at 410-939-5009 to schedule a curbside collection.

The Public Works Team has continued to "get'r done" during this difficult time. Here's a quick look at the tasks taken on by 1/2 of our streets/water crew: jetted and sprayed out problem sewer lines in the City, flushed hydrants and conducted chlorine testing citywide, collected trash from city bins and at the parks daily, hauled wood chips to the community gardens, cleaned up debris around sediment ponds and stormdrains following storm, filled sinkholes around stormdrains, upgraded several water services, tightened bolts on exercise equipment at Veteran's Park, filled in potholes, cut grass all over the city, hanging 135 banners of this year's high school graduates, answered sewer back-up calls, and, and, and... We're dedicated. :)

The water main break on Seneca Avenue at Bloomsbury should be completed within the hour. These breaks are not always an easy, quick fix. Thank you folks for your patience.

04/14/2020

This just in: Our Public Works Team is on site at 2 locations downtown repairing water main breaks. Residents in the area of Erie Street and Locust Rd., AND residents in the area of Seneca Ave. and Bloomsbury Ave. may be without water service for a few hours until the repairs are fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience. Our crews are working swiftly as usual to get service back on ASAP. Please share with others who may not be seeing this post.

TGIF! We've made it through another work week. You will see the fruits of our labor all around the City from newly installed bicycle racks, wood chips delivered to the Community Gardens, and sidewalk repairs...just to name a few. What you don't see is the broken water main that was called in and repaired in the middle of the night, the on-going maintenance and repair of city vehicles, freshly painted interiors of City Hall, stripped and waxed flooring throughout the Community Center, and the 24-hour -a-day production of fresh drinking water and waste water treatment. What you might not notice is the pet stations are always clean and re-supplied with bags, cobwebs removed from Promenade, tree limbs trimmed, and public restrooms are always clean.
Public WORKS! takes great pride in the work we do.

04/06/2020

The City's Department of Public Works team will begin flushing the fire hydrants and conducting a flow test throughout its distribution system beginning on or about Wednesday, April 8, 2020 and will continue thereafter for approximately 60 days. We do this 2x a year.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU ~
Water users may experience a brief reduction in water pressure and/or discoloration when the hydrants in your area are being flushed. While the water supply will remain safe to drink, should you notice discoloration, let the COLD water run clear. The washing of clothing is discouraged until discoloration disappears.

City of Havre de Grace

"This morning, I signed an order declaring a local state of emergency in the City of Havre de Grace in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This local state of emergency will become effective at 6 PM tomorrow, April 1, 2020 and will continue for thirty days until April 30, 2020. I will revisit the need to extend the local state of emergency prior to its expiration.

This temporary declaration will allow the City to shift its operations policy to align with the Governor’s Executive Orders. This will also give my office the legal authority and flexibility to make decisions necessary to protect not only the health and safety of our community, but also to ensure the proper continuity of government operations."

- Mayor William T. Martin

Please - If you have never recycled your garbage, NOW is the time to begin. Take a cardboard box or plastic bin to start putting all items recyclable in it. This will give you extra room in the trash can for true waste.

Attention, This is an important message from the Department of Public Works. Beginning 8am Monday, March 30, 2020,through Tuesday, March 31, 2020, the Public Works Team will be installing a storm drain pipe at the intersection of Market Street and Lafayette Street. This intersection will be closed both Monday and Tuesday while this project is being done. Please follow the detour signs should you be traveling in this area. Please call the City of Havre de Grace Public Works Operation Center at 410-939-1800 x-2100 should you have any questions.

03/25/2020

Did you know: Our trash is hauled to Baltimore County Landfill. This landfill closes at 3:30 pm. If our hauler seems to be in a rush at times or is running behind schedule, it may mean:
1. That households setting out loose bags of trash takes a lot longer to collect and creates messes to then be cleaned up, or
2. The hauler had to travel midday to Baltimore to unload their truck then return to Havre de Grace to complete their route.
Please use a can and do not overfill or load multiple bags on top or next to it. This is City Code.

03/25/2020

Just a reminder about prepping Yard Waste for collection. When pulling weeds, shake off all of the dirt into your garden/lawn before placing in container. Dirt, mulch, noxious weeds, plastic = no Yard Waste collection.

03/23/2020

Not to worry - your Public Works Team continues to respond to calls for service. To ensure a timely response, please make sure you:
1. Clearly state the problem,
2. Give the ADDRESS/LOCATION; and
3. Leave your name and CALL BACK NUMBER

Example: (Short & Sweet and to the Point) :)
"I have a sewer back-up. My address is_______, you can reach me on my cell at: _________. Thank you."

03/20/2020

CLEANING WIPES - Remember: DO NOT FLUSH WIPES down the toilet. Wipes of any type CAUSE SEWER BACK-UPS. Please throw wipes away in your trash to prevent clogged toilets, sinks, bathtubs, and showers. Same goes for GREASE/FATS. Do not pour down drains as this too causes sewer line back-ups.

03/19/2020

Attention: This is an important message for the residents who receive the Friday Trash Collection service. Due to the increased volume of trash and recycles, the collection for Friday will begin earlier than usual. Please have your containers curbside for collection by 6:00 am, Friday, March 20,2020. Again, for those with the Friday curbside collection, please have your containers out by 6am. This earlier start will allow the trash hauler to complete their route before the landfill closes. Thank you.
