We didn’t get to accept awards at the Hawkins Chamber of Commerce Banquet because we were called out to a fire, but the man in blue is the epitome of consistency and dedication in the department and deserved to be named Firefighter of the Year…Lt. Bucky Elkins seen with Danielle Thompson.
Fire Chief Ty Musick with Asst Chief Cody Thompson and Captain Kris Karlson after presenting them with their 25 years of service watch. And last but not least Sydnee Pack with 2 Bears joining in the celebration. Not shown: Norma Hallmark, Secretary/Treasurer, selected as Officer of the Year.

We never expect anything in return when duty calls because we volunteered to help people.

That fire north of 14 yesterday was our fire; however, we asked Holly Lake VFD to take command, and they stepped up to the plate. Multiple agencies were called and we want to thank them all. Holly Lake, Hainesville, Quitman, Mineola, Perryville, Pleasant Grove, Ogburn, Christus EMS, Wood County Sheriff’s department, and the Forestry Service. This is how you get things done.

Multiagency fire today north of 14. Please please don’t throw ci******es out and be careful with burning. It is dry out there and the wind makes it worse. Forest service said 29 acres burned.
