We’ve been running our quail hatchery Mullis Quail Covey for over 5 years now, and in that time, we’ve met some incredible people—from our loyal clients to fellow business owners.
I’ve come to realize that while friendly competition keeps us sharp, there is something much more valuable: shaking hands with those who share our mission. We might run our farms differently, but we are all working toward the same goal: preserving the natural bobwhite quail so there are more wild birds for generations to come here in Georgia.
We recently had the pleasure of stopping by the Buckarama at the Perryfairground to shake hands with the folks at Split Thistle Quail Farm. Just like us, they run their farm as a family, working alongside their kids to do things the right way.
There’s a new generation of hatchery owners coming up, and we believe it’s time to change the culture. Instead of keeping to ourselves, we want to be more helpful, open, and collaborative. By sharing knowledge and supporting one another, we can have a much bigger impact on the future of the bobwhite.
For us, it’s not about the spotlight or social media—it’s about the hard work behind the scenes and the pride we take in our birds. There’s no better feeling than hearing, “Hey man, those birds flew like rockets.” We all strive to produce strong, healthy birds that are acclimated to our Georgia climate—and, of course, birds that keep you on your toes if your aim is a little off! 😜
Let’s keep the tradition alive and the future of the bobwhite bright.
