HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT
The 911 Operators were moved out of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Dept and put under the control of Pulaski County Emergency Management Agency and Fire Chief Leslie P. Sewell appointed as the Director Nov 2004. The New 911 Center was completed and opened on land that the County owned next to the Health De

partment, 87 North Lumpkin Street, on April 1, 2005, with only a director and three communications officers. The 911 Center was moved to 249 Perry Hwy on Nov 7, 2012. This was the old National Guard Building. The 911 Center, Pulaski County Fire Department, Pulaski Co Emergency Management Agency moved to this new location. Construction started on the new truck bays on the south end of old building the next week. Before the end of year an additional 18 acres behind the station was added. Communications Operators:

We are looking to immediately hire two new employees! Night shift and dayshift!
Pulaski county Dispatch is accepting applications for an emergency communications officer. Please stop by the Fire station to pick up an application! All applicants must personally come in and fill out application to be considered for the position.
Dispatchers must pass a drug screening, have a GED or high school diploma, a clean background check and are required to attend a one-week communication class in Forsyth Ga within six months of hire (provided by our director).
Some job qualifications:
•Have a high school diploma or GED
•Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
• Listen effectively and obtain accurate and detailed information.
• Operate communications equipment quickly and accurately.
• Speak with a clear, well-modulated voice by phone and radio dispatching equipment while tactfully communicating with highly emotional callers.
• Work cooperatively with citizens, co-workers, sworn personnel, and other college employees.
• Remain calm and exercise judgment in making decisions in emergency situations under heavy workloads.
• Determine priorities of emergencies.
• Work irregular hours to aid in 24-hour coverage.
• Maintain confidentiality and work under stressful conditions.
• Use a computer for technical and communication applications.
• Perform receptionist duties, word processing, and data entry.
• Maintain accurate and complete records.
Duties include answering 911 and administration phone lines, determining the nature and location of the call or emergency; determining priorities, and dispatching police, fire, EMS, or administrative personnel as necessary in accordance with established protocols and procedures. Additionally, all actions must be recorded in the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. Dispatchers are required to multi-task quickly and efficiently. Incumbents are required to work independently, react rapidly, and demonstrate good judgment and discretion in stressful situations.

I HAVE THE WEEK WRONG! 😅🤣 DISPATCHER APPRECIATION WEEK STARTS ON THE 13th!!
Tomorrow starts Dispatcher appreciation week! As you know, we have 8 amazing dispatchers who work their tails off to ensure quick response times for all our first responders for the citizens of Pulaski county. They take all your Fire, EMS, Deputy and even Animal Control calls. After hours they take Utility calls. They do it all! ❤️ shower them with love this week. They deserve it! There are 2-3 girls on at a time depending on the time of day. And someone is there 24/7!

Last week La Cabana held an event at their restaurant and donated a portion of their proceeds to help those affected by hurricane Helene. Believe or not but there are still people with no electricity! They made it possible for this load to go out! ❤️❤️ we are still accepting donations!
