The HVFD is excited to announce that we will now be able to provide File Of Life’s for our residents!

What is a File of Life?

A File of Life is attached magnetically to your refrigerator and contains all pertinent medical history, medication lists, and other important health information.

Why is this so Important?

HVFD First Responders and EMS Personnel may need this information to treat you during an emergency! There are times where patients are unable to answer questions, and this is used to gather important medical information to better help treat the patient.

How can I get one?

Just give us a call and we’d be more than happy to provide one to you! We will also have them with us on Medical Calls, and may provide one to the patient’s family! Feel free to give us a call at: 413-339-4267 if you’d like one. They are completely free of charge to anybody who needs one!

We would also like to provide a huge thank you to the following agencies for helping us provide this service!
Franklin County Sheriff's Office TRIAD Division
Berkshire County Sheriff's Office
Northwestern District Attorney's Office
Berkshire District Attorney's Office

Last month,Hawley Fire Dept. Lieutenant Hussain A. Hamdan attended a specialized training in Montana hosted by Vitalogy EMS, on the subject of conducting technical rescues in austere environments associated with wildland fires. The REMS (Rapid Extraction Module Support) training corresponds to NWCG Standard PMS 552 as well as NFPA 1006 and builds skills in finding, accessing, stabilizing and extracting patients in remote difficult terrain and rigging high and low angle technical rescue systems. Though REMS is primarily known in connection with large fires in the western states, these skills are equally useful and beneficial in our mountainous terrain in rural western Massachusetts.

Open burning season ends in less than a week in those communities where it's allowed. If you plan to burn, a permit from your local fire department is always required in advance and you must be ready to extinguish the fire on a moment's notice. With several major outdoor fires reported this month, remember to burn responsibly: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/open-burning-safety

Today members of the Hawley Fire Department began the process of clearing the roads and trails at the Dubuque State Forest. Members cleared several trees from the roadways in order to open them up for potential emergency responses.

During this time, we took the time to familiarize our newer firefighters with the network of roads and trails as well as reviewed some previous calls for service within the State Forest. We also began the pre-planning and review of potential emergencies and how to best respond and provide the highest level of service.

This is an ongoing process, and you will likely see us again in the State Forest in the next couple of weeks.

This afternoon, members of the Hawley Fire and Highway Departments worked together to clean up the fire station lot and driveway. A new layer of gravel was put down and the car port our brush truck sits under was elevated so that everything is now level with the new driveway. The carport was also repaired from winter damage and a cable conduit was installed to allow us to use a block heater and trickle charger in the winter months. Many thanks to our outstanding road crew and to all the firefighters who donated their time and in many cases personal heavy equipment to help get this job done in record time, while saving Hawley thousands.
