With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, the Haworth Fire Department mourns the passing of Firefighter and past president Rosemary “Granny” Weyer, who left us on February 6, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born on December 6, 1938, Rosemary answered the call to serve when few doors were open to women in the fire service. When she joined the Haworth Fire Department on September 19, 1979, she did more than become a firefighter, she made history. Rosemary was the first woman firefighter in Haworth and in all of Bergen County, forever changing the landscape of the fire service through her courage, strength, and determination.
She faced challenges with quiet resolve, earned respect through her actions, and stood shoulder to shoulder with her brothers in the firehouse, proving that heart, bravery, and dedication know no gender. Her presence opened doors for countless others.
Rosemary’s service was marked by selflessness, compassion, and an unwavering love for her community. She was not only a pioneer, but a sister, a mentor, and an inspiration. Her impact cannot be measured in years alone, but in the lives she touched and the barriers she broke.
As we mourn her passing, we also give thanks for a life lived with purpose, service, and courage. Firefighter Rosemary Weyer’s watch has ended, but her legacy will forever remain part of the Haworth Fire Department.
Rest in peace, Granny.
You will not be forgotten.
Arrangements to follow.
