Today at approximately 11:04 AM the department was requested to Royal Ave for a reported Truck Fire. Upon arrival of Chief Speranza 50 a working truck fire was confirmed with the engine compartment being well involved. Due to the truck being equipped with propane tanks companys were quick to arrive and strech 2 1 3/4 attack lines. The fire was knocked down and under control without any damage to any of the exposures. Job well done by all companies. Photo Credit to Nick Harrison

Last night Members from Squad 3 and Rescue 5 trained on hose deployment and operation. Members practiced deploying the hose and different ways to advance while flowing water. Great job by both companies.

Yesterday at approximately 6:43 PM Squad 3 was requested to respond to the City Of Belleville. Squad was initially assigned to house coverage but was later sent to the fire scene to relay pump. Squad remained on scene relay pumping till 5:30 AM, At which point Squad was released and able to return back to town.

Last night Squad 3 members conducted search and rescue training. Our newer members were taught how to conduct a primary search and different techniques of doing so. Job well done by all members.

At 4:50pm this afternoon the Hawthorne Fire Dept was dispatched to the area of North 12th and Westervelt for a reported fire. While enroute a large column of smoke could be seen in the area. Chief Speranza arrived and confirmed a working fire with the rear of the home fully involved extending to exposures and 2nd alarm was transmitted. Companies stretched numerous lines to extinguish a heavy volume of fire in the home as well as a garage, shed, and large amount of debris in the backyard while also checking numerous homes for extension due to radiant heat damage. Companies operated on scene for nearly 4 hours. Thank you to our mutual aid companies for your assistance both on scene and covering the Borough. Also thank you to our Ladies Auxiliary for refreshments and Hawthorne EMS for standing by on scene and handling 3 injuries to firefighters. (Photos from neighbors)

Last Night Squad 3 was dispatched to Bloomingdale at 2:23 AM for Firehouse Standby during a Major Fire operation in Butler. We remained on standby in Bloomingdale until our release at approximately 6 AM.

Last night Squad 3 took advantage of the warmer weather to teach our new and upcoming members the basics of hoseline operations as well as establishing a water supply. These are crucial skills for any firefighter on an Engine Company.
