. Individual Volunteers
Our warehouse is where the donated furnishings are receive, stored, and sorted ready to be delivered to home creations for youth. By giving us a helping hand in the warehouse volunteers enable us to get to more youth on our waitlist. Individual Donors
The needs of each youth we serve are different and unique. We strive to provide each youth and every home creation everything that is needed for their specific circumstances. By donating money, individual donors fund specific needs for items (refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, etc) that we don’t regularly receive from our corporate partners. High Schools and Middle Schools
The best way to teach the next generation of leaders the values of kindness and generosity is by having them practice these acts. By organizing drives to collect smaller home essentials, high schools and middle school students, educate their community while enhancing school spirit. Students sponsor home creations providing their groups a rewarding team building experience while supporting a life changing milestone for their peers who would otherwise be fending for themselves. Former Foster Youth Paying It Forward
Youth who receive a home creation pay-it-forward by partaking as volunteers to create homes for other youth. Transformed by their own experience their shining example as a volunteer reveals the best version of themselves, and inspires their peers to become architects of their own destiny.

🏳️‍🌈💙 This month and every month, we celebrate, honor, and uplift the incredible LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in our community.

The numbers tell a story that demands our attention:
🏳️‍🌈 30% of foster youth identify as LGBTQ+
🏳️‍🌈 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ+

These young people are navigating the foster care system while facing the added trauma of rejection, harm, and discrimination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Many have experienced rejection by their own families and have nowhere to turn.

At A Sense of Home, we believe you belong here and are committed to acceptance, inclusivity, and belonging for EVERY young person aging out of the foster care system. Your identity isn’t something to hide or change — it’s something to celebrate. You deserve a home where you can be fully and authentically yourself, and community that sees you, loves you, and fights for you. 💙

We are excited to announce that ASOH has received an incredible grant from The SAM Initiative (), supporting ASOH’s Former Foster Youth Members affected by the LA Fires last year.

🍳 Big News - has partnered with !

We’re absolutely thrilled to receive a donation of THREE pallets (!) of high-quality pots, pans, and cookware. These beautiful items are going directly to former foster youth who are moving into their very homes, starting their new chapter on their own.

Moving into a new home is a huge milestone, but filling a kitchen from scratch is expensive. Thanks to , these resilient young adults and families now have the essential, durable tools they need to cook healthy meals, build community, and truly nourish themselves.

Our Place, thank you for investing in their futures and helping us turn empty apartments into warm, welcoming homes. 💛

Meet Angelina, a former foster youth, young mother of two, and now the newest member of the A Sense of Home family. 💙🏠

And we are so grateful to and for making this home creation possible, and creating a space of peace, stability, and hope for Angelina and her young family.

Angelina’s home was created alongside Taneil — Molly’s very first ASOH home creation recipient! Years ago, Molly showed up for Taneil when she needed a fresh start. Today, Taneil paid it forward, standing side by side with Molly to create that same magic for Angelina. This is what community looks like. 💙

At ASOH, former foster youth don’t just receive homes — they become part of a movement of people who understand what it means to need support, and who are committed to providing it for others. Thank you, Molly and the YSE team, for empowering foster youth and for creating spaces where young people can heal, grow, and thrive.

More than just a home, ASOH provides a loving community and ongoing support — a reminder to those we serve that you don’t have to do this alone. 💙🏠

This Foster Care Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the incredible people who show up every day to advocate for youth aging out of foster care, like our Housing and Resource Navigator – Fatima Juarez. 💙✨

Fatima doesn’t just support our recipients, she fights for systemic change that creates pathways to stability and opportunity.
Recently, Fatima traveled to the California State Capitol in Sacramento to advocate as a representative of the National Council of Jewish Women Los Angeles (), an organization that played a pivotal role in her own life. She stood before legislators to advocate for the continued support of AB 1829: the CalWORKs Recipient Education Program, a critical policy that allows single mothers to pursue higher education, escape poverty, and rebuild their lives with dignity and autonomy.
This is what advocacy looks like. It’s showing up, using your voice, and fighting for policies that don’t just help individuals, they transform systems.

Fatima knows firsthand what it means to need support, to fight for your future, and to rise because someone believed you deserved more. Now, she ensures our recipients have that same chance not just through housing navigation, but through tireless advocacy for the policies and programs that create real, lasting change.
Thank you, Fatima, for being a champion for our community. Your dedication, heart, and unwavering belief in our recipients inspire us every single day. 💙

This Foster Care Awareness Month, let’s amplify the voices of advocates like Fatima who refuse to accept the status quo and fight for a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

Foster Youth Friday: Meet Melissa Martel ✨💙

This , we’re celebrating one of our incredible Pay-It-Forward Ambassadors, Melissa Martel, a nurse, athlete, and powerful example of what resilience and support can create.

For Melissa, running became more than a sport; it became a space for healing, growth, and self-discovery. Through life’s challenges, she found strength in continuing to show up for herself, one step at a time. With the support of a caring foster mom who encouraged her passions and goals, Melissa was able to participate in track and cheer – experiences that helped her build confidence and begin believing in the future she deserved.

Today, Melissa continues to turn adversity into motivation. After completing her LVN program at Northwest College, she is now continuing her education in the RN to BSN program at West Coast University. Every milestone she reaches reflects the strength, perseverance, and determination it took to keep moving forward.
Melissa’s journey is a powerful reminder that healing takes time, support matters, and with the right foundation, foster youth can achieve anything they set their hearts on.

Thank you, Melissa, for being a champion for our community. Your dedication, strength, and unwavering belief in yourself inspire us every single day. 💙

As part of Foster Care Awareness Month, we invited our Former Foster Youth Program members and Pay-It-Forward Ambassadors to join us for a day of wellness, rest, and community. 💙✨

Thank you to and for creating a transformative sound bath and wellness experience! And our incredible Pay-It-Forward Ambassador, Elizabeth, added even more heart to the day by creating thoughtfully curated healing boxes from her business .queen.legacy.healing for every attendee. This beautiful gift was a reminder that care, rest, and self-love aren’t luxuries; they’re necessities. Thank you, Elizabeth!

Watching our community come together, breathing, healing, and simply being, reminded us why this work matters so deeply. To everyone who showed up: thank you! Thank you for trusting us with your time, your presence, and your healing, and for reminding us that community isn’t just about what we do, it’s about how we hold space for each other.

We look forward to continuing to hold space for our community in meaningful ways, and moments like this that remind us: you are seen, valued, and are loved. 🫶💙
