Here are the road conditions from Big Ridge Road to Clintwood as of 7:15pm, the road conditions continue to deteriorate. Please stay home, stay warm, and stay safe.

Unless it is a true emergency, do not attempt to travel. Conditions are expected to worsen, and road crews need clear access to continue working.

If you don’t have to be out, please stay in. Take care of one another.

Also a huge shoutout to Dickenson County Sheriffs Office for assisting us on calls throughout this weather. They are a huge help to us.

If we get the amount of snow they’re calling for this weekend, there’s a strong chance we could lose power. Please take time today to prepare now, because conditions may make it hard to get out once the storm hits.

✅ Prepare to be without power for several days
• Stock up on food, water, and necessities
• Have safe ways to stay warm (temps may be in the single digits)
• Test generators today and make sure you have fuel
• Charge phones, battery packs, lanterns, etc.

💊 Prescription Medications / Oxygen
Please make sure you have enough prescription medication to last several days.
For anyone on oxygen, make sure you have plenty available in case power is out for an extended time.

🚑 EMS Response During the Storm
If you call for help during this storm, please understand response times may be delayed due to road conditions. It may be too dangerous for ambulances to travel until VDOT clears a path, and in some cases we may have to use alternate access (such as side-by-sides) to reach patients.

Please take care of one another, check on your neighbors, and be prepared.

As always — we’re here for you.

Happy New Year from Haysi Rescue Squad!

As we ring in the New Year, we want to remind everyone that the Town of Haysi is more congested than usual today. If you’re traveling through town, please slow down, stay alert, and be mindful of others on the road.

Most importantly—please do not drink and drive. We love meeting people and helping when needed, but we don’t want to meet anyone like that. Make a plan, use a designated driver, or call for a ride.

We have had multiple crews out on the road today responding to calls, so tonight as like any other time, if you need us we’re 1 phone call away.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and let’s start the New Year the right way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support. ❤️🚑

Today has been a busy day for us. We have responded to numerous calls for service throughout the day, and into the night. We would like to sincerely thank our neighboring agencies who stepped in and assisted while we were on other calls, ensuring our communities continued to receive a quick and dependable ambulance response. We truly appreciate the teamwork and support.

As we celebrate Christmas, we want everyone to know that Haysi Rescue Squad is here, ready to respond. We proudly provide coverage to our two towns that we cover and our surrounding communities. and no matter the time of day or night, we remain committed to serving.

We would also like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. We hope your day is filled with love, joy, and good food. Please remember to be cautious on the roads, as traffic may be heavier with family and friends traveling to visit loved ones.

The holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also be difficult for some. If you are feeling alone or overwhelmed, please remember that you are not alone—reach out and talk to someone. You are loved, you matter, and help is always available. If there is anything we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to message our page.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, you can call or text the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988 at any time for free, confidential support.

Stay safe, take care of one another, and know that we are honored to serve you—today, tonight, and always. ❤️🚑

Yesterday day December 9th at approximately 11pm, Haysi Rescue was dispatched along with Clinchco Fire and Haysi Fire for a residential structure fire in the area of 5700 Dog Branch Gap Rd. Haysi Rescue unit 68 was the first to arrive on scene and our crew gave a scene size up to notify incoming fire units the conditions. Once fire units arrived on scene and began extinguishment, we staged on standby in case we were needed. Thankfully our unit cleared with no patient contact. We arrived back at the station without incident around 1am.

Today our EMS family is hurting. We lost one of the good ones — Tommy Dingus.

Tommy wasn’t just a provider, he was a staple in our EMS community. He was knowledgeable, skillful, and most importantly kind. When we heard his voice on the
radio or saw him walk into our ambulance we was immediately relieved. We knew at that point our patient had the best pre-hospital care possible.

To those of us who had the privilege to serve alongside him, we’ll remember his dedication, his humor on the long nights, and the quiet strength he brought to every call. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the people he inspired.

Rest easy, brother. We love you and miss you, we will take it from here. 🚑❤️
