The Hayward Police K9 Association would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Rose family for their generosity and support. In loving memory of their late family member and beloved dog, Zoe Rose—who crossed the Rainbow Bridge five years ago—the Rose family graciously donated bags of treats and toys to our K9 teams.

As you can see, our pups were thrilled with the surprise! We at HPDK9A are truly humbled and grateful for the continued support from our community.

We hope everyone had wonderful and safe Easter. Our Hayward Police K9 Association pups definitely did! The Easter Bunny, by way of Lisa and Chuck Rose, generously gifted each K9 team with individual Easter baskets. Not only did the K9 teams enjoy the baskets but they were touched by the Rose’s generosity, and the fact that their mission to make positive connections within our community has thus far been effective!

Turbo, a Belgian Malinois just over a year old, is already demonstrating exceptional skills. In addition to his impressive police K9 abilities, Turbo has amazed everyone with his agility and acrobatics. He has been paired with Officer Cach from the K9 Unit, and together they have just completed an intense eight week training and certification course. We look forward to sharing their future achievements. Please join us in welcoming Turbo!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This weekend Hayward Police Officers responded to a residence where a man entered the home of his estranged family, assaulted an elderly family member, and was in possession of a handgun while he committed the offense. Hayward Police Officers arrived on scene quickly and took the suspect into custody without incident. It was then they learned that the suspect had hidden his handgun somewhere in the residence where his estranged family and children resided. This obviously could lead to an extremely dangerous situation where a child finds an unsecured handgun. It was then that Officers on scene requested K9 Arwin, who as we have seen in the past, is a police service dog specially trained to locate fi****ms and ammunition. With the blessing of the family, who desperately desired that the suspect’s handgun promptly be located and removed from their home, K9 Arwin searched the residence with his handler Officer Higgins. K9 Arwin quickly located and alerted Officer Higgins to the loaded handgun, which was in a concealed location of the residence accessible to a child.

By using our police service dogs in this manner, officers are able to save time and manpower during a search, while simultaneously increase their probability of locating what they’re searching for. Great work Arwin and HPD!

Our favorite K9’s are out putting work in this holiday season to keep our community safe. Officer Gillett and his K9 Blaze worked on the county’s Regional Sideshow Enforcement Team this past weekend. They responded to a car stop, where other officers had stopped a known drug dealer on probation for illegal narcotics sales. During a search of the car, K9 Blaze used his well trained bork bork snoot snoot to show Officer Gillett a hidden compartment in the vehicle, where three baseball sized baggies of suspected methamphetamine were hidden. Other drugs were located in the car as well and the driver was arrested. Great work Officer Gillett and K9 Blaze!

Last Saturday night, officers and deputies working on the Alameda County Regional Sideshow Enforcement Team (RESET), had a vehicle flee from them. Once they caught up to it, the vehicle’s passenger fled from the car on foot through an apartment complex where officer’s lost sight. RESET officers noticed the passenger was holding something. Once they located and detained the passenger the object was no longer with the passenger. RESET then called for one of their greatest resources…a Hayward Police K9! They knew that as a locating tool, Hayward Police K9’s are next to none. K9 Blaze and his Handler Officer Gillett arrived on scene. They searched the passenger’s flight path and lo and behold, K9 Blaze located and alerted to a loaded handgun that had been discarded in the bushes! The passenger was arrested on related charges. Excellent work Officer Gillett and K9 Blaze!
