A Bittersweet Community Update from Your Bass Lake Fire, EMR, & Rescue team:
It is with heavy hearts that we share an important update with our Bass Lake community. As of today, the Town of Bass Lake no longer has an operating volunteer fire department, EMR team, or rescue services. After the board’s decision to remove our fire chief, the remainder of the team has made the choice to resign.
For those who may not regularly attend monthly town board meetings, we strongly encourage you to begin doing so. It is important that every resident understands how the current leadership is prioritizing personal interests over the greater good, safety, and wellbeing of this community. This week’s local newspaper offered only a glimpse into the division that has grown between the town board, their employees, and the public safety department.
Fire coverage will continue under our mutual aid agreement with the City of Hayward Fire Department—an organization many of our members also proudly volunteer for. However, please be aware that response times will increase significantly as we transition away from a Bass Lake–based team.
Despite the challenges, we remain incredibly proud of what we accomplished together over the past 3.5 years.
• We raised nearly $100,000 through fundraisers and grant programs.
• We left the department in far better condition than we found it.
• We built a dedicated EMR crew to serve your medical needs with speed and compassion.
• And above all, we served with pride, integrity, and love for this town.
Our commitment to Bass Lake is not ending.
In fact, it is evolving.
We will continue giving back through our newly formed 501(c)(3) organization: Bass Lake Public Safety Auxiliary. This initiative will allow us to serve the community in new ways, strengthen our unity, and advocate for the standards and safety our residents deserve.
We ask you—our neighbors, supporters, and friends—to pay close attention to your local government. Get informed. Get involved. And most importantly, vote for leadership that prioritizes public safety and stability. This is the second time in four years that this same board has turned over an entire department, leaving Bass Lake reliant on outside agencies.
As we head into the weekend, please be mindful that emergency service response times will double under the current structure. You deserve to be aware of the reality.
Thank you for the unwavering support you have shown. We will share opportunities to stay connected and support the new Auxiliary organization soon. In the coming days, this page will be converted to reflect our new mission and continued service to the Bass Lake community.
With sincerity and gratitude,
Chief Headley, Officer Gorski, Secretary A. Headley,
and the entire Bass Lake Fire, EMR & Rescue team.
Please feel free to share on other pages you see fit to spread the word.
