🐾 🐶 🐱 🐔 🐮 🐰 🐥🐷
The Lac Courte Oreilles Police Department would like to remind our community that during periods of subzero temperatures and dangerous windchills, animals are at serious risk of injury or death due to extreme cold exposure.

We urge all pet owners and livestock caretakers to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and well-being of their animals. Pets should be brought indoors whenever possible. If animals must remain outside, they must have adequate shelter that is dry, insulated, windproof, and elevated from the ground, with access to fresh, unfrozen water and appropriate food to maintain body heat.

Even animals accustomed to cold weather can suffer from frostbite, hypothermia, and dehydration in these extreme conditions. Prolonged exposure can be life threatening.

If you observe an animal that appears to be in distress, lacks proper shelter, or is left outside in dangerous cold conditions, please contact LCO Animal Control, if after hours contact Sawyer County Dispatch Center and an LCO Officer will respond.

Additionally, elders or individuals with disabilities who may need assistance ensuring their pets are safe during these freezing temperatures are encouraged to contact Lac Courte Oreilles Animal Control if after hours contact Sawyer County Dispatch Center and an LCO Officer will respond. Assistance is available to help make sure pets are protected and cared for during this extreme weather.

By working together, we can help protect animals during this dangerous weather and continue to support one another as a community.

Thank you for your cooperation and care.

🚨 Safety Reminder & Request for Assistance 🚨

We’ve received reports of vehicles illegally passing school buses while their red flashing lights are activated and the stop arm is extended. Please remember, when those lights are flashing, children are either getting on or off the bus, and all traffic in both directions must stop.

⚠️ Passing a stopped school bus is not only against the law, it’s extremely dangerous. These signals are in place to protect our children, and it only takes one careless driver to cause a tragedy.
