Busy Day for Perry County Emergency Management

Today was a very busy day for Perry County Emergency Management, with responses to three separate gas leak incidents and one residential structure fire.

First and foremost, we are thankful to report that there were no injuries at any of these incidents.

One of the most significant calls involved a gas leak at New Beginnings Day Care. The Hazard Fire Department responded quickly and efficiently, ensuring all children and staff were safely evacuated from the building.

After the initial response, Hazard City Gas worked diligently to address the leak. While the source of the leak was brought under control, gas readings were still detected inside the building. Out of an abundance of caution, Perry County Emergency Management made the decision to have the daycare remain closed until we could be completely certain the facility was safe for children and staff to return.

We are pleased to report that this evening, Hazard City Gas conducted a thorough reinspection of the building. Gas detectors were used throughout the facility, and no gas was detected. The building has been deemed safe, and New Beginnings Day Care is cleared to reopen.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:

Perry County 911 Dispatch
Hazard Fire Department
Hazard City Gas
The staff of New Beginnings Day Care

Your professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to public safety helped ensure a successful outcome for everyone involved.

As always, Perry County Emergency Management remains committed to protecting our community and appreciates the cooperation and patience of everyone affected by today’s incidents.

Stay safe, Perry County!

Today, Perry County Emergency Management was dispatched to a natural gas leak outside Hazard ARH Hospital. Upon arrival, we found a leaking 4-inch gas line. Hazard City Gas was immediately notified, and responders quickly established a safe perimeter around the area.

As a precaution, the Hazard ARH helipad was temporarily closed, and medical helicopters were staged at a safe location until the situation was brought under control. Hazard City Gas crews responded promptly, shut off the gas supply, and safely cleared the lines.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Hazard Fire Department, Hazard City Police Department, and Hazard City Gas for their rapid response, professionalism, and teamwork in helping keep our community safe.

A special thank you also goes to our Perry County 911 dispatchers for their quick actions in getting first responders to the scene without delay. Their dedication and efficiency are critical to the safety of our citizens every day.

We are grateful for the strong partnership among all of our emergency services and utility crews. Working together, we continue to protect and serve the people of Perry County.

Last night, Emergency Management and the Perry County Sheriff’s Department were notified of a possible missing or abducted 10-year-old child. We immediately responded to the area, and within minutes we began receiving calls about a child matching her description. Both agencies responded and located the child safely, and she was returned to her residence.

Special thanks to everyone involved the citizens who found the child beside the road and took her to McDonald’s, everyone who called in with information, and the Perry County Sheriff’s Department for their efforts in locating this child safe and sound.

Today was an amazing day at Career Day at Perry County Central High School! Students from several schools across PERRY County came together to learn about different career opportunities.

We had the honor of attending on behalf of Perry County Emergency Management, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Perry County 911, and the Perry County Fiscal Court. It was truly a pleasure meeting so many students and getting to talk with them about their future goals and career paths.

A big thank you to the Perry County School Board for allowing us to be part of this event each year. We always look forward to connecting with the next generation and supporting their journey toward success!
