Busy Day for Perry County Emergency Management
Today was a very busy day for Perry County Emergency Management, with responses to three separate gas leak incidents and one residential structure fire.
First and foremost, we are thankful to report that there were no injuries at any of these incidents.
One of the most significant calls involved a gas leak at New Beginnings Day Care. The Hazard Fire Department responded quickly and efficiently, ensuring all children and staff were safely evacuated from the building.
After the initial response, Hazard City Gas worked diligently to address the leak. While the source of the leak was brought under control, gas readings were still detected inside the building. Out of an abundance of caution, Perry County Emergency Management made the decision to have the daycare remain closed until we could be completely certain the facility was safe for children and staff to return.
We are pleased to report that this evening, Hazard City Gas conducted a thorough reinspection of the building. Gas detectors were used throughout the facility, and no gas was detected. The building has been deemed safe, and New Beginnings Day Care is cleared to reopen.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:
