Installation was recently completed on our new emergency power generator. This state-of-the-art system ensures our firehouse remains fully operational in the event of a power outage, and assists your firefighters in providing an effective and efficient response.
We again wish to thank Chief Richard Story, City Manager Ed Klobucher, Z03 Power Co, and everyone else who made this possible.

To raise awareness and help fundraise for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan, local Law Enforcement agencies take part in a Torch Run that spreads throughout Michigan. Our Hazel Park Police Department participated in this Torch Run today after receiving the torch from Madison Heights Police Department and are on their way to hand the torch off to Ferndale Police Department. We applaud them for braving the heat and raising awareness for truly amazing athletes!

Construction Update

In order to ensure the safety of our residents, the Hazel Park Fire Department has just undertaken several air quality testing procedures at the Hazel Park Raceway demolition site. Performed in conjunction with SME Engineers, the Fire Department’s testing found air quality to be safe. Unfortunately, construction sites emanate offensive odors from time to time. SME Engineers will be onsite on Monday, and will continue to monitor air quality throughout the duration of this project.

The City of Hazel Park learned this morning that the Hazel Park Raceway closed its doors for good at 1:00 AM. The Raceway struggled for more than 20 years under a very unfavorable regulatory environment in the State of Michigan. The Raceway was a huge part of Hazel Park's history for nearly 70 years. We have learned the Raceway owners are negotiating the sale of the property to a developer. While we are sorry to see this iconic entertainment venue close, we are looking forward to bringing even more exciting new development to the City of Hazel Park.

To our supporters,

As the holidays approach, we had hoped that politics would not be an issue. We had hoped, that unlike last year, any legislation dealing with retirement and collective bargaining rights would be handled in a fair and responsible manner. Sadly, it appears this may not be the case. Despite having a sensible and fair recommendation from the Governor’s Responsible Retirement Reform for Local Government Task Force, we have learned there could be legislation that goes against this group’s recommendation. Therefore we must again ask your help.

We are requesting that you contact your local representative and senator and tell them to adhere to the Governor’s task force recommendation. While there is no official bill that has been introduced, there is a strong fear that after Thanksgiving a bill might be introduced that will decimate honestly earned pension benefits and collective bargaining rights.

We can’t thank you enough for all your support over the years, and we thank you in advance for your help in this matter. Below are links to help find your state representative and senator. We will always be there when you call and our family is always ready to help your family!
