đź“– Georgia Law of the Day

OCGA § 40-6-72 – Stop Signs and Yield Signs

A stop sign means exactly that — STOP.

Under Georgia law:

đźš— Drivers approaching a stop sign must come to a complete stop at the stop line, crosswalk, or nearest point where they can safely view approaching traffic.

đźš— After stopping, drivers must yield the right of way to vehicles already in the intersection or approaching closely enough to create an immediate hazard.

đźš— Drivers approaching a yield sign must slow to a reasonable speed and stop if necessary for safety.

đźš— After slowing or stopping, drivers must yield the right of way to traffic that presents an immediate hazard.

đźš— A collision occurring after a driver passes a yield sign without stopping may be considered prima facie evidence that the driver failed to yield the right of way.

đź’ˇ Plain English: A stop sign is not a suggestion. Come to a complete stop, look for traffic, and yield the right of way when required. A yield sign means slow down, be prepared to stop, and let conflicting traffic go first.

Stay safe and drive responsibly.

What a great day for our community!

We truly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with the citizens we serve, especially our youngest ones. From handshakes and high fives to all the smiles in between, moments like these remind us why community connections matter.

Thank you to the Jeff Davis Public Library staff for inviting us to be part of yesterday’s Touch-A-Truck event. We are grateful for the chance to engage with our youngest citizens and build relationships that last far beyond the day.
