A big shout out for Peter Terranova, Jim Cavuto & Rob Preston on winning the election for Hazlet Township Committee. It was a huge win! They ran a positive, honest campaign and will work hard for the people of Hazlet in the coming years. Thank you to everyone who came to show their support; we packed the house! A heartfelt thank you to Sue Kiley for the extraordinary amount of hard work and time she put in, in the past year, running for Congress. Although the result was not what we hoped for, we are proud of everything she accomplished and are fortunate that she will continue to support the people of Monmouth County as County Commissioner. It is a colossal undertaking to run for Congress; Thank you Sue for stepping forward to run for public office to make our country a better place to live. We are so proud of you!

I cast my vote last weekend. It was an easy choice... I voted for Peter Terranova, Rob Preston and Jim Cavuto for Hazlet Township Committee. All three have spent their lives volunteering to help others. They have heart and show it through action.

Whether it be through actively helping others through his church or as a little league coach (Terranova), or volunteering to save others’ lives and homes as a fireman (Preston), or volunteering as a First Aid Responder (Cavuto); these men have heart. Together they have dedicated 90 years to helping others. Admirable indeed.

Now they are stepping forward to offer to help run our town…. this is a huge commitment on top of all the other volunteerism they continue to do, while working!

They are always positive and supportive. It comes naturally to them…. Terranova and Preston have done an extraordinary job since they were appointed to the Committee in the springtime to fill open positions on the Committee. Our town will be blessed by their energy, foresight, kindness and courage.

Yes it takes real courage to step forward to be an elected official. Many easily pass judgement, and are negative, espousing things that have no basis in fact. It takes courage to make tough decisions especially when we face challenging times, like the present. They do so with humility and empathy.

We are fortunate to have three extraordinary candidates running for Hazlet Township Committee. I encourage everyone in Hazlet to vote for Cavuto, Preston, and Terranova this Tuesday! Put proven leaders in a position to lead our town.💪🏼🇺🇸

Hazlet has a Clear Choice on November 8th
Are Cannabis facilities the pathway to a better Hazlet?

By Township Committeeman Skip Mckay

The Democratic candidates for Hazlet Township Committee have advocated for “Change” and articulated their strategy for raising tax revenues by “Capitalizing on Cannabis.” They are endorsing the opening of recreational cannabis stores as well as cultivation facilities in our community. Whether using Cannabis is good or bad is a personal decision based upon New Jersey laws. The question is whether their projections are sound and what are the ramifications.

The Democratic candidates have put forth the economic argument that a single store of 1,000 square feet would generate approximately “$84,000 in tax revenue per quarter” based upon the 2% tax the town could levy (state regulations). The math would suggest that this store would be selling $4,200,000 of Cannabis every 90 days ($16,800,000 annually) or $46,667 of Cannabis a day in our town. At a recreational price of $70 per eighth ounce, this infers that our citizens would be consuming 60,000 purchases of Cannabis in that 90-day period from this store. In a year, over a ton of Cannabis in one eighth ounce size packages. Seems like an ambitious sales plan, and if true, the nature of the town should be expected to certainly “Change” given this level of indulgence.

I anticipate the Democrats would suggest we will get significant sales from non-Hazlet citizens. If every town is proposing to sell Cannabis, why would someone drive to Hazlet to buy their Cannabis? Why not buy Cannabis locally and avoid driving while under the influence of it from indulging in the “lounges” they advocate opening? If other municipalities do not open these stores and cultivation facilities, are they proposing that Hazlet become a statewide beacon of Cannabis sales?

The state Cannabis referendum they love to reference specifically did not ask the question of whether people would want a Cannabis store near their home. Do you think Governor Murphy will have a Cannabis store near his mansion on the Navesink?

Let’s not forget, the Democratic candidates have stated that the town could charge a “user fee” on top of the NJ regulated price for the Cannabis. As a business owner myself, we can learn some lessons from the states that have allowed recreational Cannabis sales…

We know existing Cannabis sales are conducted through elaborate and established criminal networks. A recent article in NJ Monitor cited black market Cannabis sale prices will be fractional to the stated NJ regulated price. If I were a Cannabis exhorter (and I am not), the best place to find motivated buyers for this product would be to stand in front of the store and offer cash discounts from an illegal peddler directly. Of course, the store owner can call the police and report an illegal sale of Cannabis in front of his Cannabis store.

Illegal Cannabis marketers will focus on these stores for prospects as they have done in other states. If our police were not already busy enough, this activity will certainly sharpen their detain and arrest skills. Whether we get this amazing tax revenue or not, we will get the increased criminal activity and costs affiliated with it.

What most people do not know, is that drug sales of this type must be made in cash, as the Federal government and most banks have a harsh view of any drug related money. Visa, Mastercard and PayPal typically do not fund drug transactions.

The Democrats are right about creating jobs from this one store of 1,000 square feet. They will need armed guards to protect all the cash they are projecting to be generated every day.

As a sitting member of the Hazlet Township Committee, I am not running for office next week. I have voted against establishing Cannabis stores in our town. I am waiting for a sound, compelling argument to move forward or stay our course with no stores.

This slate of Democratic candidates has not convinced me… either their numbers are correct, and our town will succumb to the impact of many, many folks being under the influence of Cannabis. Alternatively, their numbers are simply invented for the sole purpose of stimulating voters with the promise of easy tax revenue.

The current Hazlet Township Committee has executed upon “Change” for the last four years. We have rebuilt 30% of our roads and financed them with a near 1% interest rate, returned Town Hall operations to a 5-day operation from the last Democratic “Change” platform when it shuttered operations on Fridays which lessened service to our citizens, and have saved countless lives with initiatives such as purchasing CPR pumps for our Police cars.

Not all “Change” is good. There are clear choices in this year’s election. Please exercise your right to VOTE!

Where is Gov. Murphy and the Democratic led legislature⁉️ NJ tax payers face huge property tax increases in 2023 due to approved rate hikes of more than 20% on state and municipal worker health plans.

“We would have to turn off the lights in Pleasantville and lock the door if this increase goes through,” said Pleasantville's mayor. It could cost local governments $350 million.
