Welcome to my page. I’m David Asfour and I’d like your support as a write-in candidate running for election to Hazlet’s Board of Education.
I had the opportunity and privilege to serve on the Hazlet BOE from March 2018 through December of 2022, and hope to have your support to continue this important work in 2024.
Please allow me to share a little background about myself, to allow you to make an informed decision on Election Day:
I’ve been a resident of Hazlet for the better part of my life, moving to Hazlet with my family in 1985, and progressing through the Hazlet school system until I graduated in 2001. I moved away for college and eventually moved back to Hazlet with my wife (also a life-long Hazlet resident) in 2010, finally settling in our own house with our new family in 2012. We have an amazing 12 year old daughter, currently a student in 7th grade at Hazlet Middle School.
I’m passionate and believe strongly in this school system, which has afforded me and my wife amazing opportunities throughout our lives to be successful in our careers. I feel confident and proud to have our daughter in this same school system, and hope to have the opportunity to continue to give back and contribute at the board level.
I became a licensed Architect in 2012, a goal I began pursuing back when I was 16 years old in Raritan High School. I knew then that Architecture was my passion and the field I would dedicate my career to. Today, I’m the Principal and Global Operations Director of a 2300 person global architectural firm, one of the top 3 largest architectural firms in the world. My career has afforded me the opportunity to explore the business and management side of my field, a passion of mine that I’ve grown to love. Although I do not come from the education field, I believe my experience has uniquely positioned me to continue to be an asset on The Board of Education. In my role, I’m responsible for the complete performance, delivery and operations of our practice. I manage teams of people around the world, as well budgets and revenue projections for our firm. I’ve created, implemented, and managed a global education program within my firm, geared towards investing in our people and providing them the learnings, tools, and confidence to be successful professionals while delivering exceptional results to our clients. I value education, in all walks of life, and understand the importance of investing in our students. I’m a decision maker, adept at making difficult decisions that have both long term and short term consequences on our business, our people, and our clients. I strive to be informed fully on topics at hand, and know how to ask questions and lean on others more qualified in their respective fields.
During the 5 years on Hazlet’s School Board, at a time that was one of the most difficult for our children’s education, I was most proud of our administration and teacher’s ability to adapt and prioritize our children’s needs each and every day. In a difficult climate, Hazlet put our children first, and truly lead the way, putting Hazlet in the conversation. It was remarkable to witness first hand the resilience of our children, the resilience of our staff, and the support of our parental community as we all navigated unchartered waters together.
I know what it means to be a Board Member. Being just 1 of 9 voting members who represent the community, making informed decisions in the BEST interest of our children, always remembering that the strength and governing authority of the board is about the collective whole, not any 1 individual. I believe in our current board, our central administration, our principals, teachers, supervisors, support staff, coaches, and buildings and ground personnel. I’m proud of what this district has accomplished, whilst dealing with significant budget constraints and state-wide policy restrictions. I believe that a well-functioning school board is not defined nor divided by political party lines, but united by the single most important focus, our children. We have more work to do, and I’m up for that challenge.
I hope that you’ll come out and support me as a write-in candidate for Hazlet’s Board of Education. Write-In “David Asfour” on Election Day. Thank you!
