St. Joseph Hospital, Redwood Memorial providing comprehensive tools for community members

Eureka, Calif. (August 19, 2024) – The Foundations at Providence St. Joseph Hospital and Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital are pleased to announce upcoming workshops titled “Securing Your Wishes: Crafting End of Life Documents - Wills, Trusts and Power of Attorney”.

These essential workshops will be held on the following dates and at the below locations:

August 27, 5:30pm – 7:00pm

Free to the public, light dinner provided

August 28, 12:00pm – 1:30pm

This workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to create comprehensive end-of-life documents including wills, trusts and power of attorney.

• Individuals looking to secure their future and protect their loved ones.
• Families wanting to ensure their assets are managed according to their wishes.
• Anyone interested in learning more about estate planning and legal documentation and/or charitable giving.

After serving as Assembly Health Committee chair since, 2016, and doing really important work for Californians, I'm honored and humbled to announce that Speaker Robert Rivas has appointed me as Assembly Speaker pro Tempore beginning immediately. I'm thrilled to be working closely with Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry in her role as Assembly Majority Leader. I will do my best work in the Assembly next year and will work hard to live up to the trust the Speaker has placed in me. I'm excited about bringing all my colleagues together to create good policy for California.

The weather couldn’t have been better for the celebration of the Pudding Creek Bridge Widening and Rail Upgrade project celebration. It has been modified to accommodate two 12-foot-wide lanes, two 8-foot-wide shoulders for bicyclists, two 6-foot pedestrian walkways and new bridge railings to improve safety. The project also includes “Complete Streets” improvements by constructing sidewalks on the north and south, installing new storm sewer drainage and relocating of the City of Fort Bragg’s waterline and sanitary sewer line on the sides of the bridge. Thanks to Caltrans and the Fort Bragg community for putting up with the slow downs and the closures!

I was able to go for a quick ride with City of Fort Bragg Police Dept Chief Neal Cervenka in the new EV police truck – they are one of the first departments to use all EV patrol vehicles.

I also met with FBPD’s Crisis Response Unit (CRU) team members, Hannah Nanez, Janette Ornelas and Captain Thomas O’Neal. I appreciated hearing about their approach and thank them for the work they are doing, assisting vulnerable residents get the services they need.

I am so inspired by the great work Harbormaster Anna Neumann and the Noyo Harbor District Commissioners are doing. The plans for a new fuel dock, ice house, Entrepreneurial Marine-Based Training Program and the creation of a Community Fish Market will breathe new life into the harbor! I toured the harbor with Anna and her Coast Guard partners, Officers Wills and Gray.

Last week, I was honored to present Fort Bragg Fire Chief, Steve Orsi, with a resolution memorializing his father, Dannie Orsi. Dannie was a member of the Fort Bragg Volunteer Fire Department for 60 years! We owe such a debt of gratitude to Californians like him, who dedicated so much of their lives to protecting their communities.
