The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for CLiK Extra wound spray, providing livestock producers, veterinarians and wildlife managers with an additional tool to help prevent New World screwworm infestations in wounds. According to the FDA, available scientific evidence indicates the product may be effective in helping prevent New World screwworm infestations when used as authorized.

Effective immediately, Robertson County is under a countywide Burn Ban as ordered by the Commissioners Court due to increasingly dangerous fire conditions.

Outdoor burning is prohibited while the Burn Ban remains in effect. Dry vegetation, high temperatures, and the potential for gusty winds create conditions where even a small spark can quickly become a dangerous wildfire.

We ask all residents to:
• Do not burn brush, trash, or other debris.
• Use extreme caution with equipment that can produce sparks.
• Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials.
• Avoid parking vehicles in tall, dry grass.
• Report any wildfire immediately by calling 9-1-1.

Our volunteer fire departments have worked tirelessly throughout this period of increasing drought conditions. Your cooperation will help protect lives, property, and the firefighters who serve Robertson County.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Robertson County safe.

U.S. CATTLE REPORT 🐂 U.S. to Resume Mexican Cattle Imports at Arizona Port

The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to begin lifting its suspension on Mexican cattle imports by reopening the Douglas, Arizona, port of entry in about 30 days, according to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Two additional ports in New Mexico are expected to reopen later.

The import ban was imposed more than a year ago to help prevent the spread of the New World screwworm, a flesh-eating livestock pest that has moved north through Central America and has recently been detected in southern Mexico near the U.S. border.

According to the report, USDA believes reopening ports in Arizona and New Mexico presents less risk than resuming imports through Texas because those locations are farther from current screwworm infestations. The suspension of Mexican cattle imports has contributed to tighter U.S. cattle supplies and record-high beef prices over the past year.

Sterile male flies are released in areas where NWS is present. When they mate with wild female flies, the eggs do not hatch.

Because female NWS flies only mate once, the population decreases over time and can eventually be eradicated.

After rain ends and flood waters recede, NWS fly activity can increase with warm, moist conditions favorable for fly survival and movement. Standing water and saturated grounds may also create new habitat for NWS flies.

Continue to check animals frequently. NWS flies can lay hundreds of eggs that can hatch within 24 hours. Quick observation and treatment is critical to preventing the spread of NWS.
