What happens when an elite group of carvers set up shop in Midway for a week? Pure magic.

Midway Mayor Craig Simons talked to us about the 2026 Rocky Mountain Carver Roundup.

This event started back in 2018 with just 8 carvers in a carpeted hotel room. This year 86 carvers from Alaska to Maine, Texas to Montana, Mexico to Pennsylvania gathered here, learning from some of the most skilled instructors in the country, which included members of the Caricature Carvers of America, one of the most prestigious groups in the craft.

But what made this year so special wasn't just the talent in the room. It was the spirit of it. Participants spent a full day alongside each instructor, absorbing different styles and techniques. Vendors set up shop so carvers could grab tools and wood on the spot. In the evenings, the community was invited in for wood burning demos, sculpture classes, a live band, barbecue dinners, and even a night where local kids picked up a carving knife for the very first time.

Keep an eye out for upcoming classes through UVU and a local carving club coming soon.

The Wasatch Back Art Festival took over the Midway Town Square this weekend featuring hand crafted art from local and regional makers. The Wasatch County Library is opening its annual Artist Call for Entries this April, and local artists are encouraged to apply!

Over the years, the Library's exhibit space has welcomed an incredible range of talent — from local artists like Jim Bryan, Kristine Zanno, David Miller, Georgia Haneke, and Brian Thayne, to nationally recognized shows like the Smithsonian's Crossroads: Change in Rural America and World War I: Lessons and Legacies. The Library has celebrated quilters, photographers, student artists, and everything in between — and your work could be next.

- Applications are open April 1–30
- One application per entry period, submitted online
