Dear Citizens of Hector,
Recently we have noticed an increased amount of residents calling our Officers work phone or personal phone and looking for assistance. We have also had residents coming to our homes looking to speak with us and sometimes wanting to report a crime.
We absolutely take great pride in serving all of you and try to provide the best service possible! However, this is not the best practice for reporting crimes to Law Enforcement or seeking guidance.
We typically have staff available 24/7 to assist you. When calling their personal phones or going to one of their homes, that won’t always be productive because they also have a life outside of public service.
If you wish to speak with an Officer about something that does not need immediate attention or about a crime that does not need immediate attention, we encourage you to call our Police Department at (320)848-2500. This phone is not staffed 24/7, but we receive the voicemails and someone will reach out to you at there earliest opportunity.
If you need to report a crime or speak with an Officer and it is urgent, please call Renville County Dispatch at (320)523-1161. This number is staffed 24/7 and they’re able to get ahold of the correct Officer who is available.
Lastly, if there is an emergency or an active situation that needs an immediate emergency response, please call 911.
It is vitally important for us to provide the best services to you! If you do not call 911 in an emergency situation and chose to go to an officers home or call their personal phone, generally those extra 5-10 minutes can be very impactful to the victims and the investigation.
Best Regards,
Chief Zachary Pierce
Hector Police Department
