It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Wissel Sr, a Life Member of the Heidelberg Volunteer Fire Department, who dedicated 58 years to serving both our department and our community.
Throughout the years, Joe proudly served as many line officers positions including Fire Chief in which he served for 16 years taking on leadership roles that reflected his commitment, dedication, and love for the fire service. His years of service, leadership, and willingness to answer the call have left a lasting impact on our department.
Being a firefighter is more than responding to calls—it is about family, sacrifice, friendship, and serving others. Joe embodied those values and will always be remembered as an important part of our department’s history and family.
While we mourn the loss of a fellow member, we are grateful for the many years of service and the legacy Joe leaves behind. The lessons, memories, and friendships created along the way will not be forgotten.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Joe’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside them.
Rest easy, Joe. Your watch is over. We’ll take it from here.
There will be a viewing at Leo Henney Funeral Home at 323 Second Ave Carnegie PA 15106 beginning on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8. During the second viewing there will be a Fireman’s Service at 7:30. All Firemen wishing to participate in the service please plan to be at the Funeral Home no later than 7:20.
A mass will also be held on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton (St. Luke’s Carnegie) at 330 Third Ave Carnegie PA 15106.
