DATA DIVE
(Data Pulled August 25th, 2026)

Our latest data provides a snapshot of substance use and treatment needs among individuals currently in the Detention Center.

• 37 individuals (23%) reported illicit drug use.
• 73% of those reporting illicit drug use reported methamphetamine use.
• 18 individuals were identified as being at risk for drug withdrawal.
• Nearly half (49%) of those reporting illicit drug use were also reported to be at risk for withdrawal, with methamphetamine and fentanyl identified as the primary drugs involved.
• 16 individuals were participating in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), which can help individuals experiencing withdrawal manage symptoms and support safer care while in custody.

These numbers highlight the significant role that substance use, withdrawal management, and access to treatment play in detention and criminal justice services. Understanding the data helps us better recognize the needs of individuals in custody and the importance of appropriate, evidence-based care.

Lewis and Clark Public Health is recruiting citizen volunteers to host Save a Life Day popup events across Lewis and Clark County on Thursday, September 24.

Save a Life Day is a grassroots National Day of Action that equips the public to recognize and reverse an opioid overdose. What started in two West Virginia counties in 2018 in response to their opioid overdose crisis is now happening in all 50 states. Save a Life Day promotes year-round widespread naloxone access as one solution to the overdose crisis.

Want to host a Save a Life Day popup at your business, church, or organization? Want to volunteer at a local popup site with a participating agency? Call Vivi Tyler at 406-457-8958 or email her at [email protected].
