Commerce recently joined co-owner Christi Levine and her family to celebrate the grand opening of Flat Creek Mercantile. Located at Bowman's Corner, the convenience store brings a much-needed retail and fuel option to rural Montana, complete with a coffee bar. We’re proud to celebrate and support new small businesses like Flat Creek Merc.

🎬 Location of the Month: The Jersey Lilly may be an off-the-beaten path historic landmark, but it’s a cinematic treasure waiting to be discovered.

Located in Ingomar, population 16, The Historic Jersey Lilly Bar and Cafe Montana was originally established as a bank in 1914. It eventually became a vibrant saloon and eatery in 1933. Whether you're shooting a gritty Western, a captivating Prohibition-era neo-noir, or even stories set in more modern times, this location could effortlessly transport your audience across decades. The building still has its original bank vaults as well as a creepy basement should you wish to mix up the genres.

If you're wanting the expansive, wide-open sky of eastern Montana, as well as tumbleweeds and hitching posts, Ingomar and The Jersey Lilly have them. This iconic location has even captured the lens of acclaimed photographer David Yarrow, who filled every frame shot at The Jersey Lilly with the right amount of chaos and storytelling.

Montana Mural Monday: This mural, titled “Cowgirl Justice,” was created in response to a request for law-centered artwork that also featured Montana themes. Featuring the bitterroot, the western meadow lark and a cowgirl holding the scales of justice, the painting, completed in 2020, answered the request in unique and beautiful ways.

Since 1977, The Manor in Hamilton has offered 60 affordable apartments to seniors who would be unable to afford rent elsewhere locally. After nearly 50 years, the property needed significant capital improvements to address accessibility and fire suppression system updates, energy efficiency and other upgrades to enhance the quality of life of its residents. The Manor was also at risk of losing a vital HUD Housing Assistance Payment contract providing essential rental subsidies for the lower-income seniors who live there.

Toward that end, Commerce and the Montana Board of Housing provided a range of resources for the rehab project, including:

✅ $6.5 million in tax-exempt bonds
✅ $415,321 in 10-year in Housing Credit Equity
✅ $1.9 million in federal HOME funds
✅ $1,450,000 in federal Housing Trust Fund, and
✅ $750,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds

At the recent grand re-opening celebration, our housing team spoke with many residents, who were very pleased with their newly upgraded homes. Supporting projects like The Manor is their mission, and we’re proud of the collaborative work they’ve done to ensure Hamilton’s seniors have a safe and affordable place to call home.

Commerce is excited about this announcement, which will mean an $800 million aerospace manufacturing campus for Great Falls, potentially creating more than 1,000 jobs. Kudos to our business attraction team, which gave a red carpet tour for Janicki leadership and worked alongside area partners to make a profound impact on the economic future of this region and our state.

Montana Mural Monday: This mural, titled “Lewis & Clark Hotshot” was painted from a real-life photo of the artist's brother, Owen, fighting fires in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Painted in 2025, its vivid colors and realistic style make this piece very visually moving.
