Extrication is a skill that doesn’t get used a lot, but when it’s needed we must be proficient at it. The shift spent sometime brushing up on skills along with training one of our probationary firefighters.

Safety of both the firefighter and the patient are of the utmost concern with any type of extrication. Many techniques can be used to keep it safe and timely, providing the best possible care for the citizens of Helena.

Drone training

Shift 2 spent their afternoon training with the department’s drone.
This piece of equipment has been very beneficial; it can be used to help spot wildland fires and search for lost or injured people on Mount Helena or Mount Ascension.
We have also assisted in the County during search and rescue operations.
The department knows the importance of keeping our skills fresh.
You may see us flying it around in different locations around the city!

This morning Helena Fire responded to the report of a structure fire with flame moving across the ceiling of a room at the hotel. Thanks to rapid reporting from the witness and a quick response the fire was extinguished quickly with no injuries to any occupants. It is not every day we get to use truck 1. The photos below show the crew from Truck 1 working to get a roof report.

🦺 Fire Station 2 Under Construction 🦺

With funding from back in 2024, the fire station is going to undergo a remodel to certain areas of the station that haven’t been updated since the 1970’s.

They are adding private bathrooms and showers so that our crews can decontaminate themselves after a fire. 🔥 (There is currently only 1 shared shower)

The creation of a workout facility will help our members continue to stay healthy over their careers. 🏋️‍♀️

Your Helena Firefighters will continue to staff the fire station throughout the construction phase.

Helena’s Fire Station #2 has been serving the community since 1974. After over 50 years, it’s getting a makeover.
