Montana Department of Agriculture

Montana Department of Agriculture MT Dept. of Agriculture serves Montana Agriculture and grows prosperity under the Big Sky In a state where cattle outnumber people, agriculture is our business.

In fact, it’s Montana’s number one industry and growing. With 26,900 farms and ranches across Montana, the industry is valued at $4.6 billion. From wheat and barley to beef and pulse crops, Montana's Ag products are some of the highest quality and highly desired throughout the United States and world. Montana’s agricultural industry is constantly evolving to meet the needs of national and internat

ional consumers, and finding ways to add value to their products. Our ingenuity is adding value to what we grow by producing bread, cereal, pasta, b**r, w**e, ciders and spirits, candies, jams, and other quality specialty products consumed throughout the world. Montana is a leading producer of certified organic wheat, dry peas, and lentils, and is home to a multimillion dollar honey and pollinating industry. In recent years, production of oilseed crops like canola, safflower and flaxseed has increased significantly. Sweet cherries, sugar beets, seed potatoes, and hay are among some of the other staple crops grown in the state. The Montana Department of Agriculture proudly serves Montana Agriculture and grows prosperity under the Big Sky.
