May is Wildfire Awareness Month, a time focused on prevention, preparedness, and protecting what matters, together.

Wildfires are largely preventable, with nearly 85% caused by human activity. Taking steps to reduce risk, prepare your home and family, and stay informed all play an important role in keeping communities safe.

Tomorrow, May 2, is Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Remember that small actions can make a big difference. Take a few steps to reduce risk where you live:
• Clear dry vegetation and debris around your home
• Create and maintain defensible space
• Check local fire restrictions and conditions before outdoor activities
• Make a plan with your family in case of evacuation

Montana: The East Side Fire has been mapped at 3,000 acres, and is still active. Spot fires are reported on the ridgeline above Howell Gulch, and the fire continues to push upslope to the north.

Resources continue to work the Fire and are being allocated to priority areas of the fire. Pretty incredible to see 3,000 acres rip in the timber in early April. Snow packs across much of the west are at historic lows, and 61% of the nation is in some sort of drought conditions, also a record.

This is such incredible news 🙏

For everyone who watched the live feed of the fire in Beaver County yesterday — this firefighter drove straight into the field to try and push the cattle to safety. Many of us were deeply worried about him as the flames surrounded the area and we didn’t know how things would turn out.
We’ve now learned that he rode out the fire inside his fire truck — and he is safe. He is the Chief of Gate Volunteer Fire Department, and both he and his truck made it through.
Thank the Lord.
This is a powerful reminder of the courage and selflessness our volunteer firefighters show every single day — risking their lives not only for people, but for animals and livelihoods too.
So grateful for a good ending. ❤️
