Ability Montana Ability MT is 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers services & resources to those living with disabilities.

mILp Services Include:

Information and Referral: mILp provides timely information to people with disabilities, their families, and the general public through the use of our staff's expertise and access to the internet and other information resources. Independent Living Skills Training: mILp's professional staff of Independent Living Specialists provide people with disabilities with both instructi

on and training to assist them with living independently. Ex: Daily living skills, Community Resource Acquisition, Support and Recreational Groups, Social Security Assistance. Individual and Group Advocacy: mILp''s staff provides our consumers with information and training regarding individual civil rights and responsibilities regarding local, state, and national issues. We assist consumers in promoting and modeling these interests to others. Peer Advocacy: A person who has experienced a disability may be available to help in a private one-on-one setting to provide peer advice and support to another individual who is experiencing similar adjustment challenges. All peer advocates are trained and supervised by mILp's professional staff members. Self Directed Personal Assistance Services Program (SDPAS): SDPAS is designed especially for consumers who wish to manage their own services by developing a long-term supportive care program in a home setting.

Summer in Helena is always better when it's spent in good company! These first few photos take us back to Aspen Adult Services' Party in the Park, where our Helena team enjoyed connecting with community members, partners, and friends during an afternoon of games, food, and fun.

The rest of the photos are from our annual Consumer/PCA Appreciation Picnic at the Lewis & Clark Fairgrounds Pavilion, where consumers and personal care attendants came together to share a meal, catch up, and celebrate the incredible community we've built together.

Whether we're attending community events or hosting our own, each gathering is a reminder that meaningful connections are at the heart of what we do.Thank you to everyone who spent part of their summer with us! We love every opportunity to connect, celebrate, and continue building more inclusive communities together.

This interactive tool helps people locate accessible parking, sidewalks, curb ramps, public buildings, and routes throughout downtown, making it easier to plan trips and navigate the area independently. Developed in partnership with the City of Bozeman and Montana State University, the map is another step toward building a more inclusive community for everyone.⁠

Camp Bullwheel is more than a place to fish. It's a place where people with disabilities can build confidence, connect with others, and experience the freedom of being on the water.

As part of Ability Montana's Outdoor Recreation program, Camp Bullwheel offers adaptive fly fishing experiences using accessible rafts, boats, and specialized equipment, helping remove barriers so more people can enjoy Montana's rivers.

There's a lot happening at Ability Montana, and we're grateful to see these important stories reaching communities across the state. Recently, our work has been featured for three exciting initiatives:⁠

📰 A new interactive Downtown Bozeman Accessibility Map, developed in partnership with the City of Bozeman and Montana State University, is helping people with disabilities navigate downtown more independently.⁠
⁠
📰 Ricky Burns II and Montana Tech student Lucy Galarus were also recognized for their innovative emergency planning work, presented at the National ADA Symposium. Their project focuses on improving emergency preparedness for students with disabilities and creating safer, more inclusive campuses.⁠

📰 Lucy Galarus's inspiring personal journey was also featured in a Montana Right Now story, highlighting how her own lived experience led to the creation of a more accessible emergency evacuation plan for students with disabilities at Montana Tech.⁠

Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating 45 years of empowering Montanans with disabilities to live full, self-directed lives! On Friday, August 28, Ability Montana invites you to An Evening of Empowerment at Hart Ranch in Bozeman. Enjoy a family-style dinner prepared by Chef Eduardo Garcia, hear inspiring remarks from our CEO Scott Birkenbuel and former Montana Governor Marc Racicot, and connect with others who believe in building a more inclusive Montana.

Tickets are $150 per person and include dinner and two drink tickets. Tables of eight are also available! Your attendance helps support Ability Montana's mission of advancing independence, accessibility, and opportunity for people with disabilities across our state.
