Safety never takes a holiday or summer off! Over the past few months, our Elementary School Resource Officer has been working to gain his certification as an Alabama School Safety Specialist. This certification is given through TAASRO, the Alabama Association of School Resource Officers. By earning this, Officer Roberts has reaffirmed his commitment to helping to create a safe learning environment for our students, staff and parents.

As promised, here are the maps for school traffic. If you are dropping off a student, be familiar with the traffic flow and how it works. If you will be on your way out of town, plan for a little extra traffic beginning Thursday. Remember to watch out for students at bus stops and throughout the neighborhoods. Slow down in school zones and stay off your phones while driving!

One week until school starts back! Let's take the weekend to prepare for some extra traffic around the schools. Be prepared for heavier than normal traffic especially on Thursday and Friday. Officers will be stationed at each campus for traffic, so be sure to SLOW DOWN in the school zones, stop for buses that are loading and PAY ATTENTION! We want to have a safe and smooth start to the school year!

This week, Captain Hudson and Sgt. Nelson successfully completed the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute. With the completion of this course, they have each earned the prestigious FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, recognizing the successful completion of all three week-long leadership development programs offered by FBI-LEEDA.

This achievement reflects their commitment to professional development, leadership excellence, and continued service to our community. Congratulations to Captain Hudson and Sgt. Nelson on this outstanding accomplishment and dedication to the City of Helena!

We had a great time at our Bike Rodeo yesterday! We want to thank Redemptive Cycles for putting on a great program teaching kids how to bike safely. The Helena Mountain Bike Team came out strong and encouraged the little riders and showed off some of their skills as well. Thanks to our volunteers including Council member Cathy Bishop Hammann for helping set up and clean up. And, big thanks to St Michael’s Lutheran Church for sponsoring Parasol Treats for all our participants and Avadian Credit Union for donating water to keep us hydrated! If you missed this Rodeo, don’t worry-another one might be in the future! Until then-ride safe!!

St. Michael's Lutheran Church is providing free treats to the kids at tomorrow's Bike Rodeo!! Kids, bring your bikes🚲, helmets ⛑ and a parent/guardian and join us tomorrow at the high school at 9:00 am!

Update — roadway is clear

🚧 Traffic Advisory – Please Expect Delays 🚧

Motorists should expect traffic delays tonight on Highway 52 between Highway 13 and Highway 93. Alabama Power crews are on scene performing utility work, and traffic has been reduced to one lane in the area.

Additionally, a paving project is underway at the intersection of Morgan Road and South Shades Crest Road, which may also cause delays and temporary lane changes.

Please allow extra travel time, slow down in work zones, and pay close attention to traffic control devices and changing traffic patterns. The safety of our workers and fellow motorists depends on everyone staying alert.

Road crews are working on a couple of paving projects today. Highway 17 and Highway 52 W (near S Shades Crest Rd) are getting some fresh asphalt today, so plan for some delays and heavier traffic.
