Most common question we’ve been asked is “Why is the traffic worse this year than ever before?” Please keep in mind, over 90% of our 20,000 residents vote at one location, the Helena Rec Center. Unfortunately the Rec Ctr sits on the most highly traveled road in the city. Factor regular trains and other everyday traffic into the equation equals traffic like Helena has never seen before.
HPD currently has 2 shifts on duty doing nothing but working traffic and we have just called in another shift to help.
We will continue to be here all day and evening. Please bear with us.

CITY OF HELENA APPROVES TRICK OR TREATING

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Amid Covid-19 concerns, the City of Helena is allowing Trick or Treating this year. Helena residents celebrate Halloween each year on October 31, and this year will be no different.

City leadership is leaving the decision about whether or not to participate up to Helena residents.
“If people want to trick or treat, then they can,” said City Council President Harold “Hewy” Woodman. “If they choose not to, residents can just stay home and turn the porch light off.”

“We trust that the citizens of Helena will make the most appropriate choices for their family,” said Mayor Mark Hall.

Long-known for a convivial, festive Halloween atmosphere, there will be multiple opportunities, through church and civic groups, for residents to enjoy traditional holiday events.

“If you don’t feel comfortable going trick-or-treating, there are definitely alternative options,” said mayor-elect Brian Puckett. “There are multiple events held throughout the city by churches and other organizations where citizens can participate in holiday festivities.”

If participating in traditional trick-or-treat activities, Helena residents are urged to follow recommended practices regarding social distancing and wearing masks. “Please make good decisions regarding the care and handling of treats, for the safety of the kids and for their families,” said Mayor Hall.

Jefferson-Shelby
Youth Football League
For Immediate Release

The Jefferson Shelby Youth Football League, which consists mostly of the “Over
the Mountain” communities and is home to more than 2,000 football players and
cheerleaders, met on Sunday, July 26, 2020 and voted to cancel the 2020 Youth Football Season.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 along with the current surge in cases
over the past month, and the possibility of additional city, county, and/or state
shutdowns, it was determined to be in the best interest of the players, cheerleaders, coaches, spectators and league volunteers to cancel our 2020 season.

This decision was not made lightly. The League understands the decision to cancel the 2020 season will not be popular with everyone. However, we hope that
everyone will understand the health and safety of all who are involved with
Jefferson Shelby Youth Football League has always been our main focus and was
the primary reason for this difficult decision by the Member Parks and the League Board.
