Station 3 is starting to take shape. Framing on the living space finished up this week. Crews have now moved to frame the fire prevention and training side. The Helena Fire Department is grateful for the community’s support as we continue to grow with the city.

Crews were on scene tonight of a small attic fire. Homeowners smelled something burning, were able to get out safely, and quickly called the fire department. The attic was full of smoke when firefighters arrived but found the origin of the fire. The fire was out within 20 minutes with minor damage to the home. Additional crews were called in from home for any additional calls which include a building fire alarm.

If you were traveling on 11th Ave. this afternoon, you saw our firefighters filling the boot for Muscular Dystrophy Association. Fill the boot is a 72 year old tradition between the IAFF and MDA, raising over $700 million over the years. Thank you for everyone who was able to support the cause.

Today is Chief Parker's first day as the Chief of the Helena Fire Department.

Corey Parker is a public safety professional with more than 35 years of progressive leadership experience in the fire and emergency services. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of operational and executive leadership roles, developing extensive expertise in fire and EMS operations, public safety communications, organizational leadership, strategic planning, and public safety administration.

Chief Parker holds a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University, a B.S. in Health and Education from George Mason University, and numerous public safety technical certifications. He previously earned the Credentialed Fire Officer (CFO) designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE), recognizing his commitment to professional excellence and executive leadership in the fire service. He also serves as a Board Officer for The Foundation for First Responder Wellness and Resiliency, supporting initiatives that promote the health, wellness, and resilience of first responders through education, advocacy, and access to critical resources.

Starting today at noon, August 7th, 2026, Lewis and Clark County, and many surrounding areas will be in a red flag warning. This will be in effect until Saturday night at 9:00 pm. Expect low relative humidity, winds between 10-15 mph, and warmer temperatures.

Congratulations to Mike Chambers on his retirement after 26 years. Chief Chambers served as assistant chief for Helena for over 8 1/2 years, first as the training chief and then chief of operations. He started his career with Livingston Fire and Rescue before coming back to Helena to serve the community where he grew up. He managed many large projects including Truck 1 and Wildland 2, new gear washer, new air compressors for our SCBAs, to name a few. He also oversaw hiring, which 65% of all active firefighters were hired during his time. Thank you and congrats, Chief Chambers, best of luck on your retirement.

Have you ever wondered why one fire apparatus is traveling in one direction while another heads the opposite way? In July, 47.8% of our calls overlapped—meaning two or more incidents were active at the same time. As the city continues to grow, so does the demand for our services. July 2026 was 10% busier than July 2025, which 2025 itself, was our busiest year.

Red flag warning starts Saturday at 2:00 PM and will last until Sunday at 9:00 PM. The Helena area will also be in a heat advisory starting at Saturday at noon until Sunday at 3:00 AM. Please be weather aware this weekend.
