Reminder: Montana law now requires that you provide your birth year along with your signature on mail-in ballots. If the birth year or signature are missing, the ballot will be rejected. If your ballot is rejected, County Elections staff will contact you to attempt to resolve the issue by 5pm the day after the election.

Reminder, voted ballots should be mailed back by Tuesday, April 28 to ensure they arrive at the Elections Office before the May 5, 2026, deadline. Don't forget to sign the envelope and include your birth year.

After April 28, ballots can be dropped off at the Elections Office at the City-County Building, Rm 168.

ELECTION JUDGE TRAINING NOW OPEN!

Lewis and Clark County Elections is looking for community members to serve as Election Judges for the upcoming 2026 Primary and Federal Elections. Election Judges help ensure voting runs smoothly and fairly by assisting voters, setting up polling places, and helping process ballots on Election Day.

Requirements:
✔️ At least 18 years old
✔️ Registered to vote in Lewis & Clark County
✔️ Attend a required training session
✔️ Cannot be a candidate or a relative of a candidate running in the precinct where you work

Voted ballots for the City of Helena and City of East Helena Municipal Elections should be returned by mail on or before Tuesday, October 28, 2025 to ensure we receive them at the Elections Office on time. This is an all mail-ballot election.

After October 28, we recommend that you drop off your ballot at the Elections Office in Rm 168 of the City-County Building by 8pm on Election Day, November 4, 2025.

The Elections Office is open
M-F, 8am-5pm, and
Election Day from 7am-8pm.

Today, the Lewis and Clark County Commission welcomed the The League of Women Voters of the Helena Area to celebrate September 16, 2025 as National Voter Registration Day.

Proclamation:
WHEREAS, voting is the foremost right and responsibility of citizens of the United States of
America; and

WHEREAS, active and engaged citizens, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or political affiliation, are the foundation of democracy; and

WHEREAS, for any democracy to work, all eligible citizens must be able to vote for their representatives without barriers in free and fair elections; and

WHEREAS, the hallmark of good citizenship is community participation, including informed voting in every election in which a ballot is received; and

WHEREAS, good citizenship includes respecting other points of view, keeping an open mind, and taking care of one another; and

WHEREAS, a thriving democracy includes governments that are open, transparent, inclusive, and equitable.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that on September 16th, National Voter Registration Day, citizens are encouraged to remind friends and family to vote.

If you are mailing your voted ballot for the City of Helena and/or School Bond Election, please mail it on or before Saturday, August 30, 2025 to ensure it arrives at the County Elections Office before the deadline.

After August 30, we recommend dropping your ballot off in person at our office in Room 168 of the City-County Building located at 316 N. Park Avenue, Helena.

The Elections Office is open from 8-5pm Monday through Friday and 7am-8pm on the Sept. 9, 2025 Election Day.

Don't forget to get your voted ballot in the mail today, April 28, 2025, to guarantee it arrives at the Elections Office on time.
After today, we recommend bringing your ballot into our office on or before Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 8pm.

If you live and vote in the East Helena School District, you may drop your ballot off at the East Helena School District Office located at 226 E Clinton St, East Helena.

Filing for appointment to the Canyon Creek Rural Fire Department Board of Trustees is open from March 28, 2025, until filled. Potential appointees must be eligible to vote, live in or own property in the fire district, and complete a Petition for Appointment and return it to the Elections Office either notarized or signed in our presence.

The first round of candidates will be considered for appointment during the Lewis and Clark County Board of Commission meeting held on May 13, 2025, at 9am in room 330 of the City-County Building. To meet public notice requirements, candidates must file by 5:00 pm on May 7, 2025, to be considered at the May 13 meeting. If a candidate is not appointed by the Commission at this meeting, the Elections Office will continue to accept filings until the position is filled.

The trustee vacancy was created by the recall election of Richard E. Grady which was held on March 18, 2025.

If you own property in the fire district, but are registered to vote in a different district, you can request a mail ballot from the Elections Office. You can find the Landowner Request for Mail Ballot form at: https://www.lccountymt.gov/vote
