Recently, two bills that I am sponsoring passed the Senate. S1279 creates a “Youth Detention Task Force” to recommend policies that can improve the effectiveness of our juvenile justice system. S4007 permits Paterson and Newark police officers who were promoted following the February 23, 2019, police sergeants exam to have those promotions deemed as regular appointments.

Over the weekend, I participated in Memorial Day ceremonies and events in Hamilton, Monroe, and Cranbury. These events were important reminders to honor the sacrifices that so many have made for the liberties that we value.

It was pleasure to join a panel at Montclair State with David Wand, Richard Henning, Asm. Ravi Bhalla, former Asm. Upendra Chivukula, Dan Fatton, and former Senator Bob Gordan to discuss balancing energy goals, reliability, and affordability. Particularly, I discussed my legislation with Senator Zwicker to promote virtual power plants, which can aggregate decentralized small-scale clean energy sources, helping to increase energy supply and lower costs. Thank you to Upendra Chivukula and Montclair State for inviting me to speak!

Tonight, I spoke at an HPAE rally to promote safe staffing and negotiating for enforceable nurse to patient ratios. As a co-sponsor of the Patient Protection and Safe Staffing Act, I believe that better nurse to patient ratios prevent turnover, leading to lower costs and better quality of care for patients. Thank you to HPAE for inviting me to this event!

Today, I joined Project SWIPE with middle school students from the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District to discuss S3411, which establishes a Social Media Research Center in New Jersey. Through this bill, of which I am a co-prime sponsor, we can better understand the impacts of social media and create informed policies to better protect children and adolescents from any of its negative impacts.

It was a pleasure to join Asw. McCoy, Senator Diegnan, and Asm. Karabinchak for a legislative panel with the Middlesex County Education Association. We talked about pressing issues facing our educators, including healthcare and school funding. Educators work hard everyday to improve the lives of our children, and I am dedicated to ensuring they get the treatment they deserve!
