Helvetia Public Library

Helvetia Public Library The Helvetia Public Library opened as an outpost library in 1984 for the residents of Middle Fork District in Randolph County, West Virginia.

We do not use generative AI technologies in any form. Built to blend in with the rustic aesthetics of the little Swiss village, the library is located in the "Historic Square" which also houses the museum, log school and gazebo. We are a small library, approximately 1,000 sq-ft, however our services are vital in this rural area. We have an amazing community with talented people of Swiss heritage a

nd a huge variety of readers. The library has four fixed computer workstations for public use and provides a WiFi wireless hotspot which can be accessed as far away as the gazebo.

We are proud to announce the end of a year(ish)-long top to bottom overhaul of our catalog and shelves. Some highlights include:

๐Ÿ“š The spine labels on all 5593 items in the catalog have been replaced with new uniform and durable labels with clear lettering.

๐Ÿ“š All 5593 call numbers are consistent and uniform between sections and within each section. Each section has now has a unique call number prefix, so nothing ends up in the wrong spot by accident.

๐Ÿ“š We now have shelves for West Virginia materials and for Swiss Genealogy and Helvetia + Pickens historical materials. These include several hundred books and videos that were previously present but not cataloged.

๐Ÿ“š About 1000 titles have been removed to update digital catalog and match it exactly with what's on the shelf: now, if we say we have it, we do; and if we don't, we don't.

๐Ÿ“š The shelves are now sorted to exact catalog order.

๐Ÿ“š Large print and classic materials have gotten labels and are easy to pick out. Series are labelled for series-order, too.

There's always little bits more to do, but, boy. That's the most of it. Many thanks to the folks at Upshur County Public Library and Parkersburg & Wood County Public Library for their kind help.

If you need 18x25x1 furnace filters, c'mon down to the library and grab these two. They fit the furnace we no longer have, and we'll thank you kindly for freeing up a little shelf space without building a bigger landfill.
