On Wednesday, June 3rd, the Office of Minority Affairs hosted this year’s Caribbean-American Heritage Month Celebration at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City. It was a pleasure to be joined by Deputy County Executive Anissa Moore to celebrate Caribbean culture and honor the outstanding contributions of the Caribbean community not only in Nassau County, but in America. We were honored to hold this event in collaboration with Caribbean Business Connections and Team Jamaica Bickle, and we extend our congratulations all the 2026 honorees on behalf of our County Executive, Bruce Blakeman.

Huge thanks to all those who have come out to participate and attend the latest rotation of our "Starting a Business for Beginners" series! Our next session is going to be held on May 27th, and we look forward to seeing you at the Life Sciences Building of Nassau Community College.

On April 16th, the Office of Minority Affairs attended the 9th Annual Women in the Arts Recognition & Awards Fundraising Gala, held at the Allegria Hotel Grand Ballroom in Long Beach. It was our pleasure to be joined by Deputy County Executive Anissa Moore to present the honorees with citations on behalf of County Executive Bruce Blakeman. This event celebrates the women that support the cultural arts and artists active in the Long Beach community, and we are always proud to support women and the arts here in Nassau! On May 13th, OMA’s Entrepreneurial Center was thrilled to begin a new rotation of the “Starting a Business for Beginners” lecture series. This series is always well-attended, and we are always happy to bring much-needed info those looking to start a new business or up their game in our community. Part 1 details the important concepts, risks, and things to consider when looking to start a business. Of course, we also allow time and space to network and mingle with people on the OMA team and fellow aspirant business owners and current entrepreneurs.
