Hempstead Southside Hose Co#2 To protect the lives and property of the residents of the Incorporated Village of Hempstead.

Southside Hose Co #2 is one of the 8 engine/hose companies that provide fire protection services to to the Incorporated Village Of Hempstead. Southside Hose Co #2 also hold the honor and distinction of accepting the first African American into the fire dept Honorary Chief Thomas R Watts Sr #916 in 1971. At present the company operates a 1996 Spartan/RD Murray 1500GPM Midship Pumper with a 10 man Cab and 650 gallon water tank.

RIP FF Chris Carney TL-117 FDNY/Ex Capt Southside Ladder 2 Hempstead Fire Dept.

I am absolutely heart broken to learn the death of FF Chris Carney, TL-117. He was in Class 01 of 08, but not long after getting to the firehouse, he was diagnosed with cancer. Chris fought a tough battle for 12 years. Our thoughts are with his wife & kids, friends & family. Chris was an awesome guy, heart of gold & of course, a great fireman.

At 12:22pm Fire Alarm Central signed on with a General Alarm Of Fire at 63 Sewell St. Dispatcher #22 advised units that multiple calls were being received. Hose 2 responded to the scene and took a position on the Corner of Madison Ave and Covert St on a hydrant. Hose 2 went on to feed both West Hempstead’s and Rockville Centre’ Tower ladder. Later joined by a standby engine from Lakeview FD to assist.
