A traffic alert for drivers in Henderson. As Highway 60 at Barrett Boulevard has been deemed one of the city’s most dangerous intersections.

At Tuesday afternoon’s City Commission Meeting, it was announced the speed limit in that area will be lowered from 45 to 35 miles per hour.

Henderson Police Chief Billy Bolin spoke at the meeting. He says they’ve seen a lot of accidents there and they want to prevent it from getting worse with new developments.

Bolin says, “When that speed limit was made, there wasn’t a whole shopping center, there wasn’t a new neighborhood back behind it. The area has changed a lot and it needs to be more consistent with the speed of what the rest of Green Street is.”

Officials say the new signs should pop up in the next couple of weeks. Bolin says they will give drivers time to adjust to the change, by issuing warnings for a while.

Henderson Mayor Staton says they’ve also applied for a 10-million dollar safe streets grant. If they are approved, they plan to look at reconfiguring the entire intersection.

One of the hardest parts of a first responder’s job is quickly finding who to contact in an emergency. In those moments, every second matters. Not having that information readily available can make an already difficult situation even harder.

The attached graphic provides a step-by-step guide for adding an emergency contact to your phone. It will guide users on both Android and iPhone devices, with exact instructions for iPhone.

Take a few minutes to set this up for yourself and for your loved ones. It’s especially important for teens and older adults. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it could make all the difference when it matters most.
