Located minutes from the downtown areas of Henderson, KY and Evansville, IN, John James Audubon State Park is a hidden treasure of lush nature preserve featuring hiking, camping, golfing, fishing, museum, and more. Audubon Museum and Nature Center are currently operating under winter hours--closed Mondays and Tuesdays; open Wednesday through Sunday, 9 A.M.-4 P.M. Additionally, the Museum and Natur

e Center will close for the holidays at the end of the day Dec. 23, reopening January 2, 2026. John James Audubon State Park is open sunrise to sunset year-round, unless hazardous conditions exist. Cottages are normally open year-round, but will be CLOSED December 2025-March 2026 for renovations. To check cottage availability or make reservations, please call 270-826-2247. Audubon Golf Course is open year-round, but hours may vary and are weather dependent. Please call (270)826-5546 to confirm daily operation times. Four picnic shelters are available for rental. For details and reservations, please contact (270)826-2247. The Audubon Campground is open mid-March through mid-November. Reservations are booked through ReserveAmerica.com. All hiking trails except one are within a designated State Nature Preserve and must follow preserve rules of no pets. Leashed pets are allowed ONLY on Eagle Glen Pet Trail. Leashed pets are allowed in other areas of the park. There are more places to explore! Check out Audubon Wetlands on Wolf Hills Road, just north of the main park. Gate opens by early morning and closes at dusk. Cars should park in the gravel lot. The trails are ADA accessible, and include a 750-ft. boardwalk overlooking a shrub wetland, and a level, wooded path around a bottomland hardwood forest. A cypress slough can be observed from Wolf Hills Road. Leashed pets and bicycles are allowed on the designated trails. The wetland may close periodically due to flooding of the nearby Ohio River.

Don't forget, tomorrow night (June 6) is the Twilight Hike at John James Audubon State Park! Experience nature's shift change from day into night during this National Trails Day after-hours adventure. This naturalist-led hike begins at the Welcome Center at 7:30 P.M. The hike will cover 2.1-miles over varied terrain--hills, gravel and exposed roots, dirt paths, and a staircase. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight. $5/person admission.

Can't make this date? Don't want to hike our hills? Join us the following weekend, June 13, at Audubon Wetlands on Wolf Hills Road. This ADA accessible site is all flat terrain, with small gravel, dirt path, and boardwalk. This Twilight Hike begins at 7:45 P.M. Wear shoes that can get muddy, put on mosquito repellent, and bring a flashlight. $5/person admission, cash only at the gate.

Don't miss out on the Twilight HIke at John James Audubon State Park! Celebrate National Trails Day with your family on an after-hours adventure through the nature preserve trails. Our naturalists will lead you over 2.1-miles of varied terrain (includes hills, exposed roots, and a staircase!) as we enjoy that strange time of evening when the forest changes over from day into night. Come explore with us! June 6, 7:30 P.M., starting from the Warbler Road trailhead by the Welcome Center. $5 admission at the gate. No pets, please. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight. Hike should last 1.5-2 hours.
